π£Let's talk LIGHTING.π£
Can we talk about lighting for a moment? Have you ever had one of those moments where you get your hair done at a salon and you love how it looks, because of course! And when you get home, your hair looks like a completely different tone from when you were at the salon?
Lighting can play lots of tricks on our eyes, both as stylists and guests. Depending on what kind of light you're in, different tones reflect in your hair.
For example, the different shots of blonde hair are the same head:
π Hair on the left: taken in indirect lighting, with salon lights overhead turned off. It catches natural light differently, causing deeper tones and whatever warmth that's in your hair to reflect an almost golden tone. (Also, warmth is needed to keep the hair from looking dull, flat, and lacking vibrancy.)
π‘ Hair on the right: still taken in indirect light, but this time, with the overhead salon lights on. It looks cooler and a bit more neutral in tone, playing up both warm and cool tones in the hair (which was closer to the formula that I created for this particular guest).
The tones in your hair play off of the tones in your light source. Hair reflects not only what's been put into it but also what light is around it.
So, if you're ever wondering why your hair might look different, it's usually because of lighting. There might be the occasional one off where your hair was actually toned differently from what you were talking about with your stylist, but this is where thorough consultation, reference photos, and manageable expectations are required.
Hope I made sense, and you also got to learn something new today! Can't wait to see you in my chair!
COVID AND HAIR LOSS
Is Covid responsible for people losing their hair? I've gone down a little rabbit hole trying to find the answer to this issue. Amd it's something that I felt needed addressing.
Just a little bit of education for those who have experienced this and are wondering what the hell is happening to their bodies.

The MODERN S**G
It's made one hell of a comeback from it's origins in the 1970s. It's has had many names. Specifically, the name "Mullet", which definitely makes me giggle. A lot. But I'm so happy to see this haircut's rebirth into today's fashion.
It's versatility makes it one that can be worn by anyone with any hair texture! From messy to intentionally styled, I'm hoping this hair trend stays around for awhile!

πΊFAMILYπΊ
This is my cousin-in-love. We met when I started dating my husband over 20 years ago. And she has been one of my biggest supporters behind the chair, since the beginning. I'm talking beauty school to today. And it's been so much fun watching her style and color story evolve over the past 10 years.
For the past few years, we've been creating a maintainable, lived in color story with lots of highs and lows. Recently, we really went in on her haircut, giving her a soft s**g that brings out all the beautiful contrast!
Also, she is 1 of the 3 Founding Ladies of my FAVORITE cookie companies,
!!! If you haven't tried them yet, you are SOOOOOO missing out!!!
Color Story
β’ Partial Balayage retouch- with 20 volume, under saran wrap, lifted to a level 7
β’ Gray Blending - SEQ Gloss 03N/04NB, processed under heat for 20 minutes, cooled in open air for 10 minutes.
β’ Melt - 08Gi/09V/dash of 010T on her ends melted into her gray blending formula for the transition color.

βͺοΈVALUEβͺοΈ
Can we talk about Value for a moment?
I've been seeing a lot of stylist shaming from people who do not understand the work and effort put into doing someone's hair. From both stylists and non-stylists alike, but majority from non-stylists.
I could go into all the hours spent from serious practitioners, on continuing education so that we're up on the latest trends and technology in our world. I could talk about how 65% of what we make goes right back into the business. I could also go into how much physical, emotional and sometimes financial stress we go through just to make sure we give the best guest experience. But honestly, none of that really matters if you don't understand what it means to Value something.
What people place their Value in is different for everyone. Simply put, just because you don't place Value in something or view it as important is fine. Especially if you don't understand why people Value it. However, shaming people who have placed Value in something you don't understand and shaming service providers who have set the standard for their own Value, is never ok. Never!
Getting your hair done can be expensive. Getting your hair done is a luxury! Beauty industry professionals were told that we were not essential for the past year and a half. We were a luxury that nobody really needed. And now that we're back in our salons, we don't have the right to actually be a luxury?
Once again, if you don't place your Value in getting your hair done by a Beauty Professional in a salon setting, that's all you. Live your life. But simply because you don't Value getting your hair done by a Beauty Professional doesn't mean you get to shame those of us who do; providers and patrons alike. We're all trying to get by and live our lives like the next person. The only difference is the standard of living for which we've set for ourselves.
