The statement at the bottom of this is genuinely offensive. Many of us already in the industry feel the cosmetology education is not inclusive or adequate enough as it is. I’m about to be 43. I’ve doing this since I was 19. I’ve never thought of it as “just doing hair”.
Retirement age is 67 at this point. My body feels all 23+ years I’ve practicing and I’m barely halfway to retirement age. I still love what I do and want to continue as long as my body lets me. Changing this would be a disservice to all clients, veteran stylists and the stylists yet to come. Putting less experienced stylists in the field at a faster pace will hurt those of us trying to make it to retirement. Don’t flood the industry and decrease the already limited knowledge we’re given. I sought out training after completing the program due to what I felt was minimal training.
“The 1,500-hour pathway is not a good fit for every student that just wants to do hair.” -Heather Laws, department head for Alamance community college

This day will always be tied to my career. I was in my first semester of cosmetology school on this day 24 years ago. Honoring the memory of those lost, those that lost friends and loved ones and those that survived this tragedy. #911
