Summer has been so crazy, and I have had a couple of projects in the works that I will be able to talk about a bit more very soon. But in the meantime, I am excited to let you know that starting in October I will be offering a fun class for everyone called "Vitality 60". Vitality, referring to being strong and active, and 60 because the classes will be one hour long. My current plan is to offer these courses on either a Friday morning at 10:00, and/or Sunday afternoons at 3:00. We will cover a WIDE range of topics, and I will be inviting many people from the community to present their specialty. The first class will be a condensed version of a continuing education class I teach called "Edema, Lipedema, Lymphedema; A Comparative Analysis". I may divide this into two sessions or extend this particular one to 90 minutes.

The classes will be free, however each class I will have a "needed list" from various local organizations, food pantries, teachers, animal shelters, etc. I invite you to bring an item to two to donate.

Here's where I am needing your help. I would LOVE your recommendations for topics. What do you want to learn about/need the facts, etc? Currently, I plan to cover;

Edema - Lipedema - Lymphedema
Pediatric Massage - Nurturing Touch for Growing
and Changing Bodies
Massage in Arkansas - The Who, How, Why and What
Tips to Receive a Great Massage Every Time
Health Insurance - Navigating the System
How To Be a Great Patient and Your Own Patient Advocate
Elder Care - What is Safe and Effective Touch for Seniors and Why Massage is so beneficial for this Demographic
Meet Your GI System - Move it or Lose It
Balance and Mobility for all Ages

Now you! What topic do you need a "Cliff Note" in person version? It can be anything from stress management, finance, art, cooking and diet, etc. I will find instructors to "spill the tea".

List topics you are interested in below. If you are someone with knowledge and training in a particular field, skill, hobby, etc, and woud like to offer your time, drop me an email at [email protected], using "Vitality 60" as the topic.

I can't wait to hear from you! Check back here for more details.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of teaching these fabulous, curious, fun UCA PT students about the benefits of Compression Deep Tissue Therapy. Arkansas is fortunate to have such an outstanding PT program as the need for the profession continues to rise. For so many ICD10 diagnosis, a round of PT is "first tier" care. In a perfect world, there would a path where medical/therapeutic massage therapy could merge and work together as our work complements each other and can enhance outcomes. I am so thankful to have had this opportunity.

Ever wonder why I spend so much time working your feet, encouraging movement of joints, bending of toes, etc? THIS! Your big toe and its strength and mobility are vital to your ambulation and posture. We spend so much time trying to restore and maintain our strength and flexibility but often disregard our feet.

Colon and GI related cancers and disorders are on the rise. As with any condition, cancer or non-cancerous diseases, early detection and treatment is paramount. This morning I want to clear up something I hear repeatedly from clients and friends; "I can't go see my gastroenterologist because I'm not due for a colonscopy/EGD for another X years." Please know that if you are symptomatic, have changes in bowel habits or stool, stomach pain, increased reflux, these are all medical issues. Yes, "screening" procedures are paid by insurance based on your age, past medical history and insurance plan. "Screening" means you have no GI complaints and are there solely to stay ahead of GI disease. With symptoms, you have a medical/diagnostic need which is not the same.

If you or a family member or friend are delaying a trip to the gastroenterolgist because "It's not time" and you are having issues, please go. Also, if you hear a family member or friend who is delaying care for this reason, please urge them to call their insurance for clarification and MAKE THAT APPOINTMENT.

It's going to be a rainy week. Use some of that indoors, down time to call your insurance or make appointment.

Peace, love and good GI health to you!
Leigh Ann

June is Pride month. It bears repeating that my table is open to ALL. All I ask in return is that you respect me and my space. My table is a safe place to let go and hopefully leave tension, stress and pain behind.

Have a lovely day. Go forth in peace and love, respecting the divinity of all who cross your path.

When the world is crazy, we tend to cling to the things we know, when the answer is often shedding skin and embracing change. What are you ready to let go, making your step and spirit lighter?
