Can Botox thin your skin?

Not exactly... Botox works by temporarily reducing muscle movement. When the forehead is treated very frequently and the muscles are never allowed to regain meaningful movement, the muscle may gradually become smaller from reduced use.

That muscle atrophy can decrease some of the underlying thickness and support beneath the skin, creating a flatter, thinner-looking forehead.

Muscle atrophy is not always undesirable. In areas such as the masseters, we intentionally use this effect to reduce bulky muscles and create a slimmer jawline.

But in the forehead, the goal should not automatically be complete and continuous paralysis. Thoughtful dosing, appropriate treatment intervals and allowing some movement to return can help preserve a more natural appearance.
