Our ego is the little story teller with in the mind.

Beginning in childhood our ego develops creating a concept of who we are.

Most of us are unconscious. We are so connected to our thought stream, we believe everything our mind tells us. We are unaware that we have an ego chatter box assigning meaning to everything we do + everything that happens to us.

Awakening is simply awakening to the thoughts in our own mind. And, to the truth that we can not only observe our thoughts. We can question them. We can question all of our programming + as we do, we begin to see that so much of what holds us back is our own ego. It’s (limited) perspective, that keeps us locked in cycles of our own suffering.

Ego work is the practice of witnessing the ego. When am I defensive? When do I feel the strong pull to be “right?” When do I attempt to deny other realities because my ego is fear based? When am I so locked into an ego story that I engage in behaviors that no longer serve me?

I think of the ego like a small child. Desperately wanting validation, to be seen, to be heard. “Ok, I see that pain. Ok, I see you reacting from a space of love. Ok, I see you still carrying that fear of abandonment.”

The highest self is the observer. The witness. The self that can just be with all that is. The self that can access conscious choice.

Our work is to find that highest self in the moments we can + forgive ourselves when the ego has other plans
