Providing a relaxing private salo

Meet Leah. The newest addition to my little family. She’s the cutest little Maine C**n ever. ❤️

I Love My Job.
I love being a therapist when you need it.
I love making you laugh with stories from my life.
I love the special relationship we build as you become a regular.
But the part of my job I love the most is when I turn the chair around and catch a glimpse of the happiness in your eyes as you see your hair for the first time after a change.
literally said she could cry she was so happy when she first saw her new look. That is probably the biggest compliment you can ever give your stylist.
Tips are fantastic, continued support for our businesses is amazing, but nothing compares to the feeling of elation I get from seeing you all so excited and loving yourself and hair a little more because of me.
Thank you for helping me build JRB Hair Co. into what it is and for allowing me to do what I love each day.

I almost didn’t become a hairstylist😱.
For over half of my life I held a secret from everyone I knew and even sometimes myself. In my mind admitting I wanted to be a hairstylist would be a red alarm that would blast the🚪 to that closet wide open.
So I followed a different path. Later in life, I learned a valuable lesson that it’s okay to be me 🏳️🌈.
Now several years later I own a business where I can be my honest self each day in an industry that spreads beauty and love in a very turbulent world. For that, I am eternally grateful to each guest who shares my or with me.
I know June can seem like rainbows have thrown up everywhere and can be somewhat annoying but I can only imagine the young boy version of myself growing up feeling acceptance instead of shame. So that being said Happy Pride Month and to any LGBTQ+ guests my space is a safe space where you can be you and leave feeling beautiful ❤️.

How many different shampoos are in your bathroom?
Chances are IF you have more than one it’s only because you liked a scent or thought the purple shampoo was necessary for your blonde hair.
Rarely if ever when I ask a client this question do they have all the types to give them salon fresh hair every day.
Each person will be slightly different based on their individual needs but everyone should have a Clarifying Shampoo, a daily shampoo, and a purple shampoo if you’re a blondie.
Why in the world does anyone need 3 different shampoos, you’re probably asking?
1. Clarifying shampoos break down product build-up on the scalp, and they help strip the natural metals in your tap water off your hair.
I recommend a wash with this every four weeks.
2. Daily shampoos target your everyday needs. Hair is dry? Use a moisture shampoo. Hair is damaged? Use a protein based shampoo. Etc etc.
3. Purple shampoo. We’ve had the discussion already on how to use this shampoo but generally speaking you should only need it after about 4 weeks after seeing your stylist to help fight brass between visits. Using it too much has the opposite effect and can make the hair seem dull and dry.

As a reminder….
As of today I am currently on vacation and will be out of the country. I will not be responding to any inquiries related to appointments until I return on 6/18. All appointments requests will be reviewed after that date.
❤️ Jay

I want to be blonde 👱♀️
So did she. Scroll ➡️ for before.
Anytime a guest tells me they want to go BLONDE. I let them know exactly what that means:
💫Investing in quality shampoo&conditioner.
💫Use a heat protectant spray anytime you even think of touching heat to your hair.
💫Toner fades. To keep this blonde looking perfect a toner only appt is needed in between highlight appointments.
💫Use your purple shampoo only when necessary. It will NOT make you blonder. What it will do is minimally tone some warmth once your toner has faded to get you through until your toner refresh appointment.
💫Bi-weekly at home treatments. My favorites are alternating #3 & #8.
💫Consistent root touch ups for a look like this you want to be in my chair every 8 weeks.
What you do at home in between salon appointments is just as important as what I do the day of your visit. Blonde is one of the most customizable, timeless colors, but it’s work to upkeep it.
Feel free to drop any of your blonde questions in the comments below and I’m happy to answer them!

Tomorrows Mothers Day🌸
I wanted to take a second since everyone will be busy tomorrow to say Happy Mothers Day to all my guests you ladies are incredible.
To me, a mother (including my own) is the strongest, bravest, loving type of woman I know. I’m sure your kids feel the same about you. As you do about your moms.
The bond between mother and child is special and unlike any other. For me, when something great happens she’s the first I’m excited to call and tell. When something bad happens she’s the first to roll up her sleeves and throw hands 👊 to whoever did it for me.
My mother shaped me into the man I am today as many of you will shape your children into the adults they become.
I hope tomorrow you’re celebrated to the utmost for all that you do. Again from me to you, Happy Mothers Day❤️

How Do I Book an Appt?!
The best way to reserve your spot is by following the link in my bio. From there you can select your service request and it will show you my complete availability.
💫You don’t have to wait for me to read, and respond to find out I don’t have that date available.
💫You can schedule your appointment 24/7.
💫Best of all you don’t have to spend time out of your busy schedule playing phone tag bouncing back days and times until we find one that matches your schedule, instead you can see it in just a couple of clicks.
But what if I don’t know what service to request?
💫 When you submit your request it sends me a notification to confirm. This is so I can ensure the request best matches your needs and allows me to reach out to you in the case I need more information.
OR
💫 You can also Email me @
📧 [email protected]
Text, Instagram, and Facebook messages sometimes get lost or overlooked.

💫 My consultations are thorough explaining the pros and cons of every color or extension decision that is made. Ensuring your understanding and satisfaction throughout the process.
💫 All the products in my studio are vegan, cruelty free, and focus on leaving your hair healthier and shinier than before your service.
💫 Lastly, I’ve been told I give one heck of a head massage during the shampoo. Which we all know is the single best part.

Spring is in the hair.
In California spring is more like early summer. Given it was 90 degrees just a couple days ago.
With the warmer weather comes beach trips, pool days, and weekends at the lake.
With all of that also comes the flood of brunettes wanting to go BLONDE for the season.
Which just happens to be my specialty.
Creating healthy shiny blondes is something I have spent the better part of the last ten years perfecting.
Scroll ➡️ to see the before.
P.S. for all my stylist loves the new 9AG by is a game changer for those blondes that want a perfectly cool but bright blonde.

Hair extensions FAQ! ⬇️
Q: Do hair extensions damage your hair?
A: If installed correctly there is no damage to your natural hair.
Q: How often do I need to buy new hair?
A: If you treat your hair well and follow my tips for in between visits your hair can last 9-12 months.
Q: How often do I need to come in for maintenance?
A: I recommend every 6-8 weeks to come in for a move up.
Q: Are they expensive?
A: It all depends on your desired length and density most guests average an initial investment of about 600.00 for the hair but like I said above it can last for a a long time.
Q: Can I do everything like normal with my hair?
A: Yes! You can wash, dry, and style just as you normally would I just suggest keeping oily products and conditioners away from the bond that attached them in. Otherwise you’re free to do your normal routine.
If you have any other questions please feel free to drop them in the comments below and I’ll be happy to answer them!

This is 33🎂. I mean 29😂🤦♂️.
Another year wiser and another year braver.
I’m thankful for another year of support from my amazing clientele.
Now I just need cake and Botox for those forehead wrinkles.
I have some new faces on here so….
Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself I’m Jay!
5️⃣ random facts about me:
1. I have two fur babies you’ll hear about constantly. Link & Lira. But Link is definitely my fav, sorry Lira 😂.
2. I do CrossFit 4-5 times a week.
3. I’m Christina Aguilera’s #1 fan! No, seriously.
4. I’m addicted to Starbucks iced coffee.
5. I love podcasts especially true crime.
So from me to you, welcome to the tribe ❤️.

Merry Christmas Eve🎄🎅.
What are you hoping for under your tree this year 🎁?
I hope your holiday is filled with love, laughter, and family.
I hope your bellies are full and the gifts are overflowing.
I’m beyond thankful for each of you that are apart of my life and business♥️.

Happy Thanksgiving to my babes❤️
This year more than most I have a lot to be thankful for. This time last year we were going through another forced closure.
This year although I’m ready to drop from exhaustion or drink six bottles of wine from being so booked up I went home every night thinking how blessed I was to be so busy.
I can never extend enough gratitude to those of you who choose to do business with me. You’ll also never know how much you mean to me beyond being a client.
I hope your holiday is filled with love, memories, and way too much food.
Happy thanksgiving 🦃

ATTENTION LADIES 🚨!
The holiday season is upon us. I only have around three appointment slots next week for color before the entire month of November is booked up.
This will also mean that as I see guests in the upcoming weeks that December will start to be booked up as well.
If you have not made your appointment for the holidays yet I strongly advise you to do so now.
With Covid restrictions relaxing and many traveling to see family this year you don’t want to go see Aunt Brenda without your roots done, trust me.
As a reminder you can book online 24/7 at www.jrbhairco.com

Should I come with dirty hair?
I get asked this question all the time. So and so said my color will take better on dirty hair. Or it’s healthier for the hair to be oily before a color service.
All of above are actually wrong. But the sentiment isn’t completely wrong. So I’m going to break down the truth behind this misconception.
Your hair being oily actually makes things more difficult. The lightner has to be stronger and sit longer to break down the oils on your hair and actually be able to get inside the cuticle to do it’s job.
The color does not take better on dirty hair if anything the exact opposite is true. Color isn’t as powerful as lightner which is why we can’t take blonde hair color and turn everyone blonde from dark. If it’s already not strong enough for that adding additional hair product residue, and natural oils your color is most likely going to be spotty and uneven.
Okay Jay so dirty hair is bad for color right? No, not exactly.
When we shampoo often we scratch our scalp with our nails, it feels so good though! When we do this we cause microscopic abrasions in our skin. Developers in color are mainly hydrogen peroxide with conditioning agents.
You know that sting you get when you put hydrogen peroxide on a cut? Same logic here. That’s why your color burns sometimes. We ask you not to shampoo right before because we want you to be comfortable during the service and not itchy and burning.
So when should I shampoo before a color service?
If your color is off scalp meaning in foils or something like that 24 hours before the service is great. If your color goes on scalp gray coverage, all over colors, 48 hours before is great. This gives your scalp time to repair those cuts and avoid the burning.
I hope this helps explain why it is mostly a myth and better helps guests understand the why behind these chemical reactions. As hairstylists we go to school for over a year to learn the intricacies behind the products, how they work, and why. But we rarely pass that information on to our guests. I hope to bust that barrier and always provide everyone with the science behind what we do, and why these things work or don’t work.

What’s better than great hair? Great hair, champagne, and great conversation. Tonight and had me rolling, and reminded me why I love my job ❤️. Thanks ladies for the entertainment. It’s always a blast with the two of you!

Oh Canada 🍁 🇨🇦.
No one said Eh 🥲.
Your drinks are weak😅.
Poutine is disgusting 🤢.
But Toronto is beautiful 🤩.
Everyone is really nice 👍.
I’ve shopped a lot, ate a lot, and drank a lot. But I’m very ready to be back state side 🇺🇸 and have my doggos 🐕 back.

Attention Guests:
I will be out of the country starting today until next week. I will not be responding to any hair messages, texts, or appointment requests. I will approve all requests when I get back into the States next week.
Thanks,
Jay

Thank you 🙏.
I am grateful for every appointment, every transaction, and every time you choose to support me in a world full of other stylists.
But today I was reminded that I’m so much more than a small business that you choose to support.
I’m a friend, a gossip buddy, therapist, and hair guru all in one.
Out of all the things I’ve done in my life the thing I’m most proud of is creating a safe space where my guests can let their hair down, figuratively and literally. Where they feel safe to confide in me their secrets, share their joy, and ultimately their lives.
I am honored every time I put that color apron on and get to be a part of your stories.

Holy @!*$ 😱.
Can you believe her color processed for only 10 minutes. Scroll ➡️ to see the difference.
Most gray coverage takes at minimum 40 minutes to process in order to get complete coverage.
is changing the game once again with a 100% gray coverage with only a 10 minute processing time.
My guest who normally spends 2-2.5 hours for a color retouch, toner, hair treatment, cut and blow dry was in and out in 1.5 hours.
Meaning less time for her to spend in the salon, and more time for me to take more guests in a day.
Don’t worry though, I won’t tell the husbands you finished an hour early if you don’t, get yo Target shopping on girl 😂😉 it’ll be our little secret.

Let’s talk a blondes best friend and worst Nemesis.
💜 purple shampoo.
Purple shampoo is wonderful for those quick toning sessions in between your salon visits. To help keep brass at bay and your blonde bright.
But the double edge sword is purple shampoo is extremely drying.
Why🧐❓
Purple shampoo contains trace amounts of color inside it. This is how it works. As you lather up the purple “toner” cancels out the yellow. Think of it in terms of putting a more gentle toner on your hair every time you shampoo.
Now imagine if you were coming to the salon several times a week to get a toner. Of course your hair would feel like the Sahara.
So what’s the proper way to use the purple shampoo⁉️
1️⃣. Use purple shampoo 2️⃣ ❌ a month.
2️⃣. Wait at least 3️⃣-4️⃣ weeks after getting your color done. (The pigment in purple shampoo will actually strip your toner and increase the brass underneath if used too quickly after the color service).
3️⃣. Use your normal shampoo to get a good lather🧖🏼♀️ and then apply your purple shampoo over top of the lather to help evenly distribute the pigments throughout the hair.
4️⃣. Let sit for 3️⃣-5️⃣⏱ to work it’s magic.
5️⃣. Rinse and follow up with a deep conditioner to restore the moisture💦.

May I get personal for a moment?
You may have noticed a lack of social media presence from me as of late. I apologize to my guests who absorb the knowledge I intertwine with my hair pics.
The truth is Facebook and instagram became a negative effect on my mental health for a while, so I took a step back.
It came to a point where I was always stressing over taking good enough photos, or coming up with a creative caption, or simply was my engagement going to be high enough?
I began comparing myself to other artists in my field. I constantly berated myself with negative thoughts and feelings towards it.
So I took some much needed time away from the app and began to reevaluate my purpose and what drives me.
The love I have behind the chair is more than I can truly express, but that love doesn’t always translate to the social media side. I appreciate my guests for allowing me the time to step away while still having my business thrive.
I’m back, and I’m ready to bring you quality content once again. For me I needed to step away and get inspired again through art, music, and new styling tutorials. What is it you do when you’re feeling in a funk that helps pull you back to reality?
❤️Jay

🚨 ❕BUSINESS UPDATE ❕🚨
As of June 20th I will no longer be accepting new guests at this time. If you already have an appointment approved you’re fine I’ll see you then. I no longer have the space available to accommodate new guest requests and my current clientele.
I am humbled by the amount of referrals you ladies send to me and my goal has always been to provide 110% quality to each and every guest and part of that is availability. As it stands today my Saturdays are already booked until October and my June and July are almost completely booked.
I will no longer be responding to DM’s or text messages regarding business needs. If you need to reach out to me please E-Mail me at: [email protected] I will gladly respond to any hair inquiries during my normal business hours.
I am feeling so grateful to each of you that continue to support me and my business and I want to continue to be able to give you my best which is why I feel these changes are necessary.
Jay

Y’all know my addiction to Starbucks ☕️.
So when one of the baristas at my favorite location came in with pink ambitions I knew I couldn’t let her down.
300 foils, 7.5 hours, and a few iced coffees later and Bam 💥.
Speaking of Starbucks, what is your fav drink?

This girl is on FIRE 🔥.
If you’ve been in my chair a while you know there are a few things I typically say no to, pixie cuts, men’s fades, and reds/coppers.
None of my guests have these things so I’m rusty when it comes to those skills. So instead of butchering you I choose honesty and just say no I’m not the stylist for that, but I’ll recommend someone that I trust that can.
But miss asked me for this and at first I said no but after a few weeks of asking me to do it I finally relented and said yes.
I’ll be honest I even shocked myself with how AMAZING this color turned out.

Anyone else just feel emotionally overwhelmed with this last year?
From the pandemic to the endless cycle of gun violence.
So I want to take a moment to bring a bit of beauty in such an ugly world.
At JRB Hair Co you are loved and cared for. I don’t care about the color of your skin, the god you choose to worship, your career, or how much money you have in your bank account.
In my space I strive to cultivate a culture of acceptance and love. As were reminded with each news story there is so much hate in the world. But when you leave my chair I hope I’ve given you more than just great hair. I hope to give you confidence, pride, and some love ❤️.
From the bottom of my heart I’m grateful to each of you for filling my days with a bit of sunshine ☀️.
-Jay

Sometimes you just want change.
When a guest decides to make a huge transformation its not something I take lightly.
I understand the years that were spent growing out those luxurious locks. So before I make the first chop I always have a deep discussion concerning why you’ve decided this.
This builds the trust behind me as a professional and the guest in my chair. I love transforming you all and I am humbled by the faith you put in me ❤️.
Who else is brave enough to “chop it like it’s hot?” 🎶 Wait, did I just show my age there? 👴 😭🤣

Have you had a stylist tell you “No.” ❌❓
You’ve spent hours scrolling Instagram, tik tok, and Pinterest finding the perfect hair inspiration photos.
You’ve finally convinced yourself to make the change and so you book a consultation. You come in all excited and a little nervous. You show us the photos and we say “no”.
This can be difficult to swallow, but I’m going to challenge you to consider it differently. Usually if I tell a guest no, it’s followed up with “not right now”.
As a professional the top priority to me is your hairs health. Sometimes the looks you show me may not be possible without turning your hair to mush based on previous chemical history, or current condition of the hair.
Does this mean I don’t want to do your hair? Absolutely not! I want to create a plan to get you to your dream hair goals while also maintaining the health of your hair. This may mean a cut ✂️, treatments, or a customized color plan that over time ⏰ will get you to your goal.
Have you been wanting to switch it up, but unsure if you’ll look good with those bangs, or that color? Click the link in my bio and book a consultation.
Once you come in we can have an in-depth conversation on what’s possible, the why behind it, and what we can do to get you there.

So excited to bring this into the salon on April 8th!

So this is 32?! 🎂
This time last year I was celebrating my 31’st birthday at the Met Museum in NYC and about to stuff my face with the best steak I’ve ever had.
It almost seems like an alternate reality. Little did I know in a few weeks time the world was going to change in a drastic way.
This birthday looks incredibly different from last years but I’m beyond thankful for another year of life. I’m as spoiled now as I was way back then in my white tux, thanks in large part to each of you. You help me obtain my dreams by supporting my small business.
P.S. Thank you momma for bringing me into this world and teaching me how to be the man I am today. I love you so very much!

Happy New Year to all my loves ❤️.
Last year was insane and I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a new year to start. From being shut down for months to moving to San Diego. 2020 brought so many changes to my life but my one constant was my tribe of guests that have never stopped believing in me and my small company.
Through all the awful times of last year you all kept me grounded, and hopeful. I’m so excited to reopen soon and continue to transform your hair like always.
This lovely babe came in before the most recent shut down orders and we did some custom color along with 18” extensions in two different colors to perfectly match her hair and make her the blonde goddess that she is ❤️. Scroll ➡️ for her before.

Dear Santa 🎅,
I’ve been really good 😌 ... scratch that. I’ve been really decent😅. (It’s a pandemic 😷 that should come with a grading curve right?🤔).
All I really want this year is to be able to do hair again and transform beauties like this.
Thanks,
Jay
In the meantime while he works on that Happy Holidays my lovelies. I’ll be back soon!

I’m here for you.
I may not be able to get behind the chair and transform your hair in the usual way but I can still offer as much support as possible.
I will be offering root touch up kits once again to those in need of a quick root fix before the holidays.
I can still do contactless delivery of hair products for last minute gifts, or for your routine hair care needs.
If your cut is too grown out and you’re having challenges styling I can send you some tips and tricks on how to “fake it until you make it”.
I’m so sorry this is happening during such an important time of year. ❤️
P.S.
How hot is Irene with her new pink💖 money piece?!
If I had to have a perfect way to go out of the salon for a few weeks this was it!
Thank you for always trusting in me.
