I recently finished my African American Studies course, and one of our class conversations was centered around Black Power, rights, history, voice, and the strength carried through generations. It was one of those conversations that made me sit with the reality that so many of the things our ancestors fought for are still things we are fighting to protect, honor, and be seen in today.
And immediately, I thought: what would it smell like to wear power?
Not power that has to be loud.
Not power that has to prove itself.
But power that is warm, grounded, protective, and deeply present.
That is how Powerful was born.

When Connection was first being created, it was right there on our kitchen counter, inside our empty but beautiful home as we waited for our furniture to arrive. We were standing at the very beginning of a new chapter, trying to find our footing in a new place, with so much ahead of us.
I wanted Connection to feel warm, intimate, and honest. I wanted it to smell like love, not the surface level kind, but real connection. The kind you feel with the people who truly know you, hold you, and make you feel safe.
I remember writing down words that felt like Connection as I added each drop. Warmth. Closeness. Softness. Love. I was intentional with every note, making sure the fragrance didn’t just smell beautiful, but carried the feeling I wanted it to hold. 🤎

People are always shocked when I tell them I create all of our fragrances, pour them, and do allll the things Efori.
But honestly, fragrance has always been personal for me.
I’ve never really been drawn to traditional fragrances. I was always reaching for the candle with the unique blend, or the perfume roller with that little earthy twang. Something different. Something that felt like me.
Back in 2018, when I started my candle brand, I began playing around with my own custom blends. At first, I was just making candles for my coworkers, and then little by little, I started shipping and selling to other people too.
For two years, I tweaked, tested, and perfected different fragrance blends. If someone had an idea, I would try to bring it to life. And let me tell you, I was very anti-dupe from the beginning. Because with all the fragrances in the world, why not choose something that feels different? Something that reflects you?
By the time I opened my first storefront in 2020, all of that practice gave me the confidence to lead DIY candle classes and actually explain what works in a fragrance, what doesn’t, and why.
Eight years of blending, pouring, learning, failing, tweaking, and storytelling through scent brought me here.
So I say allll of that to say…
Take your time with your craft. Start where you are. You don’t have to have it all perfected on day one. Once you begin, you can refine it, grow with it, and make it yours along the way. 🤎
