🌼 DID YOU KNOW?

That Black-eyed Susan growing in flower beds and meadows isn’t just a pretty native wildflower?

Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia spp.) has a history of traditional medicinal use in North America, including preparations made from the roots and other parts of the plant.

Historically, different Rudbeckia species have been used in folk and Indigenous herbal traditions for things such as minor wounds and sores, colds, and other ailments.

Today, Black-eyed Susan has largely taken a back seat to echinacea, which has been studied more widely and is much more commonly used in modern home apothecaries. But that doesn’t make her history any less interesting — just a little easier to overlook.
