[06/12/21]   What has become your favorite hairstyle through this “work from home” phase we have just gone through?

One of my friends told me the other day that she literally realized the EASIEST way to curl her hair during quarantine. The time when she doesn’t have to go into an office, or stress about leaving in LA traffic on time, or even leave her house, she discovers the easiest way to do her hair. Go figure, right?!

Here it is folks, she put her hair in two buns, then went to sleep, then took it out in the morning. BAM! If she needed to, she would wrap the front two pieces of hair around an iron just to give it a little more definition, but that is it. This will not work for super thick hair, it will not dry.

I don’t recommend doing this everyday, but one or two times a week, go for it! Give it a try and let me know what you think. ❤️️✨

We have to accept that some days our best is “not as good” as the day before. This is super hard for me to remember often. I am making a note here for the both of us in case you needed one too.

Some days are champagne and donut days, and some days are green juice and raw nuts days. I have been trying to ask my body often and listen to her, she knows best. I am at the end of 21 days with no alcohol and it feels good to keep that commitment to myself even through a really hard season.

I am getting back to more cooking, and I am loving it so much!

Homemade meals, self Reiki, shallow baths (my new tub is really shallow LOL), clean spaces, my puppy, lots of breathing, these have become my regular self care go to’s.

Thank you to the friends that are still hanging on, it’s been a bumpy ride, I LOVE You!! Thank You!! ❤️️✨

✨ S H A M P O O ✨

Let’s do a shampoo myth busting here today! Do you remember that show? I don’t know if they still make it, but it was a good one.

Myth 1: You should shampoo your hair everyday. NO!!! You should only shampoo your hair 1-3 times a week, but bet your bootie the product companies may tell you otherwise.

Myth 2: Always follow the instructions on the bottle. NO!!! ALWAYS listen to your stylist. Sometimes there are things that we want you to either leave on longer, or not leave on as long. Ask your stylist, they will instruct you.

Myth 3: Always use the matching conditioner to the shampoo you use. NO!!! This does not or should not matter.

Myth 4: Always use shampoo if you use conditioner. NO!!! For some of us curly girls especially there are certain days where refreshing with a wet down, then condition is just what the hair doctor ordered.

Was this helpful? Do you have any questions about shampoo or conditioner, or hair in general? I got you, reach out if so!! ❤️️✨

Hi my Loves!! I am Nicole and I have missed you. I had to take a bit of a break and will be starting to pop back in here slowly. I miss being able to connect and I feel like I am beginning to be at a place where I can again.

I miss talking to you guys and I miss talking about hair! I have been finishing up my Reiki Master training and I am so excited to be sharing more about this beautiful healing energy with you guys as time goes on too.

I am ready to start moving forward and I am happy that summer is here and it is getting warm.

If I have not yet met you in person, I can’t wait until I get the chance to. Feel free to send me a DM here, an email, or check out my website at www.hairdesignbynicole.com for any questions or to book an appointment. I hope you are having a fabulous day! ❤️️✨

✨ S A C R E D S P A C E ✨

Have you had any lately? I decided recently my happiness was hard core lacking from not having my own sacred space.

The last year has really created an environment where space was super limited for all. My happiness and mental wellbeing was suffering big time. I had to make some drastic decisions, to save my mental health.

I realized I had been letting other things control my space, and big decisions were in order to claim back my power over my own life and happiness. Big decisions are being made.

Watch out 2021! 2019 was rough, 2020 was brutal. Now, I’m coming for you, bitches! ❤️✨👊

“What should I be using on my hair?”

This is a question I get asked multiple times a day, and I have a lot of answers. The biggest thing I will need to know from you is “what are you trying to do with your hair?”

Are you trying to get your natural curls styled with product and air dried? Are you trying to blow out your natural curls or waves? Are you blowing dry your straight hair? Are you trying to get waves without the use of heat (yes this is a total thing)?

Your end goal will 100% determine what I tell you to do. The hair of your dreams may only be a styling lesson away. ❤️️✨

What is your favorite part about getting your hair done?? It’s the shampoo and the massage part, right!? The part where you feel extra pampered, huh sis!?

Well don’t you worry, cause I got you covered!

What if you could come into the salon between color or cut appointments, to just get pampered and feel good?

This is where my ritual services come into play. You guys asked, and I have delivered.

These are some of my favorite services to give right now. They are about taking care of yourself, they are about connecting, they are about slowing down and being present, in the moment.

Plus the added benefit of scalp health and hydration for your hair. What could be better? Nothing in my opinion. ❤️️✨

Are you a DOG MOM? 🐶

My gosh it is such a rewarding job. My pup is approaching 7 months and each month comes with new stuff. He is growing up so fast.

When we got him I was in one of the lockdowns and unable to work. Having him as a baby then was perfect, I could be with him so much.

I was sure to try and be in the moment with him, and appreciate all of his “seasons” instead of getting upset at his silly puppy ways.

I was having so much trouble focusing then, it was really perfect timing for both of us.

He was my 12 pound puddle, now he is approaching 35, but always my baby he will be.
I am learning so much about myself in raising him. I am so lucky I get to be his mom. I know I sound crazy, but this is just where I am at with it. Crazy Love 100%. #murphymylove ❤️️✨

F O U N D A T I O N

You wouldn’t start building a house with a sh*tty foundation, if you were aware of the problem, would you?

Shampoo and conditioner seem like a boring step, but guys, it’s really really important to your hair health, and styling goals.

It’s the base that you build the hair of your dreams on. It’s the first step to healthy, amazing, beautiful hair.

Each time I hear “it’s only shampoo” I want to beg and plead that “it is NOT only shampoo, it’s the base of your hair care routine!”

Choose wisely, all shampoo and conditioner are not made the same. I am still in love with this one! ❤️✨

Hi, I am Nicole and I am a curly specialist located in Irvine, CA. I am a lover of all things hair, and curls have a real soft spot in my heart.

I love creating dimensional color, with effortless styles.

When I am not at the salon you can find me at the dog park with one or both of my cattle dogs, on a hiking trail, scouting out a local weekday farmers market, dancing (most likely alone, lol), or chilling with some tea in a cozy spot in my house.

I love helping my guests feel beautiful and comfortable. I love helping my guests listen to their own inner voice and knowing. I love helping my guests have the hair of their dreams.

If you need a new color or a new style, or if you want to hang out, come see me! I can’t wait to meet you! ❤️️✨

“Do you love hairspray?”. Yeah, I don’t either on the daily, BUT I have found the perfect few for certain occasions that would make it necessary for me to use it.

Let’s say an outdoor wedding, an outdoor photoshoot for my business, an 80’s prom party (I mean we used to do these things). So though it is not on the daily, there are certain times.

Hairspray can be tricky, but if you haven’t ever been instructed on how to use it, you could not like it simply because you are using it wrong. All hairspray IS NOT created equally. Not all brands, and not all types.

Here are my top 5 hairspray tips:

✅ Be sure to have a working spray or light spray if you want hold that is not super hard.

✅ Working hairsprays or light hairsprays are really cool because you can layer them for more hold, and you can mess with the hair a bit after spraying if you still need to place pieces. This is also why some are known as “working hairsprays”, you can still work with the hair after spraying some on.

✅ If you need to move pieces of hair after you have sprayed the hair with spray, be sure to use the tail end of a tail comb, and not your hand. The spray will stick to your hand, but will not stick nearly as much to a metal tail on a tail comb. If you need to know what a tail comb is, ask me in a DM. I got you!

✅ Only use a hard spray if you are totally done touching your style. If you mess with the hair much after spraying with a hard or finishing spray, you could create little white bally things that aren’t cute or cool. Don’t do it boo boo.

✅ If a hairspray has words like “glue”, “hard head”, or “concrete” in the title or on the can, you most likely do not want this spray, this is WAY hard. I have one client that would want this, literally one, and if you read this you will know who you are (and I love you)!

So if you think you HATE hairspray, maybe you just need to try the right kind. If you come to see me at my suite, ask me to show you the different kinds I have and use, I would love to! ❤️️✨
