1. I have acne, so my skin is oily.

Nope. Acne exists in all skin types. Acne and oil production are related. But they’re not the same thing. Acne begins with how the pore functions, not because of how much oil your skin produces.

2. My breakouts aren’t red or severe so it’s not technically acne.

Um, yes it is. Severity of breakouts doesn’t determine if it’s acne. Persistent clogged pores caused by retention hyperkeratosis is still acne.

Acne can be:
- non - inflamed (blackheads + whiteheads)
- inflamed (papules, pustules, cysts, nodules)
- combo of both

3. Hormones cause acne.

Nah, hormones make acne worse by increasing oil production. (This is there diet plays a role. A 💩 diet tips the scale)
The underlying issue is the genetic predisposition of abnormal cell shedding inside the pore.

4. Drying out acne / more exfoliation clears it quicker.

FALSE.
Healthy skin heals faster.
You go throwing your barrier off, that’s a sure bet your acne will get worse.
Barrier disruption = increased inflammation and makes treatment harder to tolerate.

Clear skin doesn’t mean your pores are all of sudden functioning normally on their own. It means YOU’VE been doing the things to keep them functioning.
