Here’s the truth about why I built Octavia’s Natural Experience.

I never went to my yoga studio for the yoga. Okay, that’s not totally true. The room was hot, the class was good, and it was always consistent. But that’s not why I kept coming back.

It’s because somewhere along the way, it became home. People who didn’t look like me, there for the same reasons I was. Eclectic conversations I’d overhear while rolling out my mat. Somebody saying “hey Octavia” at 6 AM like they’d been waiting on me.

And I’ll be honest, not every morning was sunshine. Some days the front desk barely looked up. Then class started and it was ON FIRE, and I realized they’d been showing me love the whole time, just in their own language.

Nobody did anything special for me. They just held the space, every single time, and the community grew itself.

That’s what I’m building here. A nervous system spa house in a 100-year-old home in Crete, where you can do hot yoga, sit in the sauna, take an ice bath, or get your locs done by someone who’s been doing this for twenty years. Two years ago, I put henna in my hair, thinking henna was safe. It took out the whole side of my hair out - my ends snapped in half (😱), and I ended up wearing an asymmetrical bob. I was so upset. People kept complimenting me on it, and I hated every compliment, because I knew my hair had fallen out. To everyone else, it just looked like a style.

Here’s what I learned. Strive for the most beautiful locs you can have, but they don’t have to be flawless to be worth loving. Maybe you have breakage here, dryness there, or edges you lost to a perm. Maybe color didn’t go the way you planned.

Not everybody looks like CoCo Jones or Halle Berry, but there are a lot of beautiful people out there. Locs are the same.

Wholeness over everything. What grows from you is sacred.

Yes, the ice bath is cold. That’s the whole point.

Cold calms your body down, same as putting ice on a wound. It cools your body down, it doesn’t shock it into breaking. You will not die.

If you want vitality, longevity, and to move comfortably and freely in your body as you age, you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. The first ten seconds are loud. Then your breath slows, your shoulders drop, and your nervous system learns it can handle more than you thought.
