Quick question...Do you actually know the difference between perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause? Because most women use these words interchangeably, but they're actually three different stages.

Let's make it simple...

Perimenopause is the transition leading up to menopause. This is when hormones begin to fluctuate. Periods may become irregular. You may notice hot flashes, sleep disruptions, mood changes, brain fog, anxiety, weight changes, or fatigue. Perimenopause can last several years.

Now here's the part that surprises many women...

Menopause is not a phase that lasts for years. Menopause is actually one day. It is officially diagnosed when you've gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. That's menopause. Everything after that is called postmenopause.

Postmenopause is the stage that follows menopause and continues for the rest of a woman's life. Many symptoms may improve, while some women may continue to experience symptoms that require support and lifestyle adjustments.

So remember: Perimenopause is the transition.

Menopause is the milestone.

Postmenopause is the next chapter.

The more we understand these stages, the more empowered we become to advocate for our health and make informed decisions. Knowledge removes fear. Education creates confidence.

Can I tell you what I think is hurting women more than menopause itself? Misinformation. Because many women spend years thinking something is wrong with them.

They think they're losing their minds. They think they're becoming lazy. They think they're weak. They think they're failing. When in reality, many of the symptoms they're experiencing may be connected to perimenopause and menopause.

The brain fog. The fatigue. The sleep disruptions. The mood changes. The hot flashes. The anxiety. The changing body. The problem is that nobody explained it. So, women often spend years feeling confused about changes that are completely normal. And confusion creates fear. Education creates confidence.

The more women understand what is happening in their bodies, the more empowered they become to seek support, ask questions, make informed decisions, and stop blaming themselves.

Menopause is not the problem. Lack of education is. And the good news? Knowledge changes everything. The moment a woman understands what is happening, she often replaces fear with clarity, shame with confidence, and confusion with self-compassion.

One of the biggest nutrition lessons I learned in midlife is this: Protein matters. Not because I am trying to look a certain way, but because I want strength. I want energy. I want muscle. I want to stay active for decades to come.

Every meal is an opportunity to support my body, and protein helps me feel satisfied longer, supports healthy aging, and helps preserve muscle during hormonal changes.

Midlife is not about getting smaller. It is about getting stronger, and strength starts on the plate.

Nobody noticed she was struggling. She looked polished. Prepared. Professional. She answered every question. Led the room. Delivered the update. And nobody noticed she was quietly fighting to stay focused.

Midlife in professional spaces deserves more honest conversation. Because many women are leading teams, managing deadlines, showing up with excellence…while navigating body changes nobody can see. If this has happened to youβ€” you are not losing yourself. You are not failing. And you are not alone. Dames Hub see you!
