The word transgender is used as an umbrella term for people whose gender identity or expression does not match the s*x they were assigned at birth. This includes people who identify as female-to-male (FTM) or male-to-female (MTF), as well as those who are non-binary or genderqueer.

People who are transgender often face discrimination and exclusion in many areas of their lives. This can make it difficult for them to find employment, housing, and healthcare. It is important to provide support and inclusion for transgender people to help them live healthy and fulfilling lives.

Jason Collins, first openly gay athlete to play in NBA, makes U.S. sports history. On February 23, 2014, Brooklyn Nets center Jason Collins becomes the first openly gay athlete to play in a game in the United States’ four major professional leagues. The 35-year-old journeyman plays 10 scoreless minutes, recording two rebounds and five fouls in the Nets’ 108-102 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Primer wasn’t created equal either
By now you might have an idea of what type of primer you want to use. So here’s a few ingredients to avoid when choosing your primer.

Alcohol - Alcohol is used as an ingredient to dry your skin. The down side to this though is that it will cause your skin to become even more oily as it tries to compensate for the dehydration. Even in people with oily skin! Instead use a primer with jojoba oil in it. It will help hydrate your skin and even help balance out oil production.

Silicone - This is a common ingredient in primers due to it allowing the primer to give your skin a slick texture. Unfortunately, silicone is hard to remove and will build up on your skin and block your pores. Also, like alcohol it will dry out your skin.

Fragrance - While this ingredient isn’t too common in primers, it is still good to look out for. They can be added by using chemicals that can irritate skin and primers are meant to sit on your skin for hours.

Both ‘man’ and ‘girl’ used to be gender-neutral. Gender has been split in two and marketed pink and blue. You probably weren’t taught this interesting LGBTQ+ history fact in school. Before the binary days of pastel blue and pink, the word “girl” was, until the late 15h century, used to mean a child of any gender. A male child, when they had to be differentiated, would be referred to as “knave girls” or a “maiden child” and female kids were called “gay girls”. A “boy”, on the other hand, was a pejorative term for servants. And in a crushing blow to fragile men’s masculinity across the globe, the word “man” used to mean any person regardless of gender.

You can still wear primer without having to do anything other than your skin care routine. Like we said yesterday, while the primary use for applying primer is to smooth out your skin’s texture, there are other uses for the product.

Here’s a few different types of primers:
Color correcting - These primers help with toning down any redness your skin has or even reviving the look of dull skin tones.
Anti-aging - These primers are like a primer/serum hybrid. They reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
Moisturizing - These primers are good for all skin types and can actually help keep your skin from absorbing the moisture from the rest of your cosmetics that you’ll be applying.
Illuminating - These primers are great for if you’re not planning on using a full face of foundation and/or concealer. These are meant to give the illusion of a healthy glow.
Mattifying - These primers are good for oily skin. They help in controlling the oil your skin produces. Beware of some of these though. They can contain ingredients that can leave your skin dehydrated that it will start producing more oil.

So after your morning skin care routine, you’ll put on what’s called a primer. It's used to smooth your skin. Usually they will not have any pigments to smooth out the color of your skin (that’s what foundation is for) but some of them can. Others can help treat dryness, oiliness, blemishes, or early signs of aging, but the primary use of primer is to help make the application of your makeup go on smoother.
