Back in July, we made the decision to do a big chop on her bob due to postpartum. It was all about prioritizing the health of her hair and starting fresh.

From that point, we focused on growing her hair out taking so she could get back to a full, lengthy bob that feels like her again.

Now we’ve reached a point where her bob is sitting at a more desirable length. All we needed were a couple of rows of Microlinks in the front to add length, connecting her back which has always grown fast to her front that is taking more time. ✨

As stylists, it’s so important that we educate our clients, avoid cutting corners, and know when to say no.

I’m not going to sit here and act like I’ve always had everything figured out, I’ve made mistakes along the way and learned from every single one. Growth in this industry comes from experience, and that’s something I carry into every appointment.

This client came to me with what I call “hairstylist hurt.” She’s had a hard time finding someone who can not only do extensions and color, but also truly care for her natural hair. Her hair is naturally fine, so during our consultation, we had a real conversation about what may have gone wrong in the past, and more importantly, what we weren’t going to do moving forward.

We made the decision to avoid bleach altogether. Her hair had been previously lightened with some overlapping, and I wasn’t willing to compromise the integrity of her hair just to achieve a certain look. Instead, we created a soft, lived-in blonde by bumping her base and melting it into a warm golden tone.

She also wanted extensions, but I chose to separate her services into two appointments, one for color and one for extensions. To give her hair time to breathe and recover.

Seeing her smile and how happy she felt truly warmed my heart. Moments like that remind me why I do what I do. Being able to educate my clients not only builds trust, but it also allows them to feel confident and cared for.

As stylists, we should always be informing our clients. Sometimes they genuinely don’t know, and even if they do, it’s still our responsibility to walk them through what we’re doing and how they can care for their hair at home.

That’s how we set them up for success.

Started in 2024 with relaxed hair, so we held off until her natural hair fully grew out to protect her hair health.
