We often talk about gut health, skin health, and hormones as if they exist in separate worlds.

But your body doesn’t work that way.

Your gut can influence your skin. Your hormones can affect digestion. Stress can impact all three. And the basics — nutrition, sleep, movement, and stress regulation — can influence the entire system.

So when something feels off, I don’t just want to ask, “What symptom are we treating?”

I want to ask, “What connections might we be missing?”

Because sometimes, understanding the connection is where real change begins.

People always ask me what I would do if I suddenly found myself in a major eczema flare.

This list comes from years of looking beyond the skin and understanding the different factors that can contribute to persistent eczema — from skin barrier health and environmental triggers to stress, nutrition, and gut health.

The goal isn’t to chase every possible trigger or constantly add another product. It’s to step back, look at the bigger picture, and understand what your body may be responding to.

If you’re tired of simply covering the flare and ready to better understand why your skin keeps reacting, this is a good place to start.

Sometimes the hardest part of improving gut health is knowing when to stop changing things.

A new diet one week.
A new supplement the next.
Another protocol after that.

Your gut doesn't necessarily need more things added to it.

Sometimes it needs time, consistency, and a chance to see how your body actually responds.

Instead of constantly asking, “What else can I add?”

Try asking, “What can I do consistently?”

That shift can make your approach to gut health much simpler.

HBOT is often talked about for healing and recovery, but very few people know what the experience is actually like.

One of the things we explore in this discussion is what happens once you step inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. While many people picture something intimidating or uncomfortable, the reality often surprises them. Understanding the process can help remove some of the mystery and give a better sense of why HBOT continues to gain attention in both conventional and functional medicine.

Whether you're new to hyperbaric oxygen therapy or have been curious about it for a while, this is an interesting conversation that sheds light on a treatment many people are talking about—but few have actually experienced.

You can find the full conversation on Truly Healthy MD by Dr. Monica Jauregui. Would you ever consider trying HBOT? Let us know in the comments.

These are the moments that remind me why I do what I do.

As physicians, we certainly appreciate improvements in labs and test results. But what matters most is how people actually feel.

When patients tell me they're sleeping through the night, waking up with energy, thinking more clearly, craving less sugar, and finally feeling like themselves again—that's a win.

Because health isn't just about numbers.

It's about having the energy to enjoy your life, being present with the people you love, and feeling comfortable in your own body.

Those small improvements often become the foundation for bigger transformations.

And sometimes, getting your life back starts with getting the basics right.

HBOT has been gaining attention in the world of functional medicine, but what makes it different from other therapies?

In this conversation with Dr. Julia Ward, we talk about the role of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in supporting healing and recovery. From inflammation and cellular health to creating the right environment for the body to repair itself, HBOT is opening up new possibilities for a more comprehensive approach to care.

What makes this discussion especially interesting is how HBOT can fit into a bigger picture of health—one that looks beyond symptoms and considers the whole person.

People often ask me what I actually do for my own health.

The truth is, I don't focus on perfection.

I focus on reducing things that can negatively impact sleep, stress, metabolic health, and overall well-being.

These are a few things I've personally chosen to avoid or minimize in my own home.

Health isn't built by one product, supplement, or habit.

It's often the small choices we make every day that add up over time.

What's something you've stopped keeping in your home for your health?

Many people think skin health is all about finding the right product.

But skin is often influenced by much more than what you put on it.

As an internal medicine doctor, I view skin as one piece of the bigger picture.

Nutrition, gut health, sleep, stress, and inflammation can all influence how the skin looks and feels.

That's why lasting improvements often come from supporting the body's foundations, not just the surface.

We often think of our skin as something separate from the rest of our health.

I don't.

As an internist, I've learned that your skin can sometimes provide valuable clues about what's happening inside your body—from stress and sleep to hormones, inflammation, and overall wellness.

That's why I encourage people to pay attention to changes rather than simply covering them up.

Thyroid Tip: Consistency Matters More Than Most People Realize

Many people assume that if they're taking their thyroid medication every day, that's all that matters.

But when it comes to thyroid health, the details can matter too.

Dr. Dana Gibbs shares why factors such as medication timing, lab timing, and daily routines may play an important role in understanding how well thyroid treatment is working. These simple adjustments can help create a more accurate picture of thyroid function and make it easier to identify what's helping—and what isn't.

It's a good reminder that managing thyroid conditions isn't always about doing more. Sometimes it's about doing the basics consistently.

🎧 This is just one of the many practical thyroid insights shared in this episode of the Truly Healthy MD Podcast. Listen to the full conversation for more expert guidance on Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism, and hormone health.
