The Pompadour: a hairstyle that ruled royal courts and rock stages 👑💈

Hair History | The Pompadour

Origins
The style is named after Madame de Pompadour, mistress of King Louis XV of France in the 18th century.
She did not wear the modern pompadour, but her elevated, swept-back hairstyles inspired the name.

Revival
In the 1950s, the pompadour re-emerged through figures like Elvis Presley, James Dean, and James Brown.
The look became defined by height, shine, and structure shifting from aristocratic elegance to youthful rebellion.

Today
Modern pompadours are worn across genders and continue to evolve with fades, texture, and contemporary styling techniques.

Because confidence, like great hair, never goes out of style 👑💈

This look wasn’t futuristic at all. It was inspired by ancient Indigenous beauty!

Hair History: Pop Culture Edition

You know Princess Leia’s iconic double buns from Star Wars (1977)? ✨
They’ve become one of the most recognizable hairstyles in movie history…

But guess what? 👀
That look wasn’t futuristic at all. It was inspired by ancient Indigenous beauty! 💫

The Inspiration 💡
George Lucas took inspo from the Hopi women of the American Southwest, one of the Indigenous tribes of North America.
Their traditional hairstyle featured large, coiled side buns called “squash blossom buns.” 🌸

The Meaning 💖
For Hopi women, these buns weren’t just a style, they symbolized that a woman was of marriageable age and celebrated
heritage, identity, and womanhood.

From Heritage to Hollywood 🌍
Leia’s look honored this Indigenous tradition, proving how ancient beauty continues to inspire modern icons.
From the desert to the galaxy, culture truly travels everywhere.

The Bob with Royal Roots
Did you know the bob haircut has royal (and rather tragic) beginnings?

The story goes that Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, was one of the first women to wear her hair in a short, blunt cut. 💇🏽‍♀️ When she was executed in 1536, she supposedly had her hair bobbed to expose her neck for the sword.

Centuries later, the bob became a bold statement of freedom and modern femininity in the 1920s — no longer tied to tragedy, but to power and independence!
