Retention starts before you ever touch your acrylic — and most lifting problems trace straight back to prep.

Lift the cuticle, remove the dead skin, take off the shine, cleanse, dehydrate, prime — in that order, every time.

Skip or rush any part of that sequence and the set is already fighting against you before the first bead lands.
Prep can take up to 30 minutes and every single minute is worth it.

Builder gel lifting is almost never random. It traces back to one of four things, in this order of likelihood.

1️⃣, prep. Oil, dust, or moisture left on the nail plate is the number one cause. Dehydrate fully and use a primer if the nail needs extra grip before product goes on.

2️⃣, cure. An underpowered or mismatched lamp means the gel isn’t fully curing all the way through, even if the surface looks set. Use a lamp built for the wattage and wavelength your builder gel actually needs.

3️⃣, application thickness. Thick layers or bulk placed in the wrong spot on the nail create stress points, and stress points lift first. Thin, even layers cure more completely and wear longer.

4️⃣, the free edge. If the tip of the nail isn’t tucked and sealed properly, that’s often where separation starts first — even if the rest of the nail looks perfect.

Work through these four in order the next time lifting shows up, and you’ll usually find the culprit fast.
