A dot that’s slightly too large. A density transition that doesn’t quite make sense. Placement that ignores the client’s natural hair growth.
None of these things look dramatic on their own…

Can anyone learn SMP?
Yes. And I mean that.
You don’t need a complicated background to start, come from the beauty industry, or consider yourself an artist. SMP is a skill you can learn.
What matters is whether you’re willing to pay attention, learn the technique, practice, and repeat the details until they become consistent.
If you’re someone who can sit down, learn something properly, practice it, make corrections, and keep going, there is no reason to assume SMP is “not for you.”
You can learn this whenever you feel like it.

There is no universal SMP map. Every scalp gives you different information: diffuse thinning; recession; advanced hair loss. Each one changes what you need to consider before placing a single impression.
A strong artist has to genuinely realize why the mapping needs to change in particular cases. Don’t just follow a pattern - aim to actually understand the work.
