The savage, engulfing blaze you may have seen just a few nights ago on News 12 struck more than a beautiful, historic building — it was in fact the site of Nancianne’s beloved home of just-a-few-months-shy of 20 years.

While Nancianne is personally at peace knowing her beloved kitty Minx survived the devastation, many of her friends like me feel the universe has fallen woefully short in its recompense. My heartfelt thanks goes out to Kelly Stackpole, Executive Director & Founder of Rising Starr Horse Rescue, and Michele Lavelle, RSHR Board President. Both ladies recently took time out of their demanding schedules to bring Army and Navy, RSHR mini horse ambassadors, to visit the residents of Sunrise of Fairfield Assisted Living. My Aunt was among the many beaming faces that day, touched by the opportunity to interact with these incredible animals. With smiles all around, it was a deeply moving, magical moment for me, too.

I started volunteering with Rising Starr Horse Rescue three years ago, and it has quickly become my happy place. If you are looking for a place to volunteer, donate or give back to the community in a meaningful way, look no further.
