Same brick. Same lanterns. Same porch.

The only thing that changed was the door.

Before: a painted six-panel door with narrow sidelights and a small transom. Nothing wrong with it. It just kept most of the daylight outside.

After: a pair of wood doors with divided glass on both sides. Black handles in place of brass. Light reaches all the way into the entry now.

A front door is often the first thing people notice about a house. It's also one of the last things most homeowners think to change.

Here's a look at a new home going up.

A build like this pulls from a long list of materials. Siding, doors, windows, trim, and plenty more- all of it needing to arrive in the right order.

That's a lot of moving pieces for any builder or homeowner to line up.

If you have a big project coming up, many of those items are kept in stock at TLC Elite, though it's worth confirming before you plan around something specific.

Molded and flush interior doors get compared more than people expect.

A molded door has raised panel detail worked into the surface. It reads as a more traditional look, closer to what most homes already have throughout.

A flush door is flat from edge to edge. No panel lines, no raised detail. It tends to suit a more modern or minimal style.

Neither one is right for every house. It usually comes down to what the rest of the trim and doors in the home are already doing.

Seeing the two side by side tends to settle it faster than any photo can.

Same doorway, completely different feel.

The old single door did its job, but this update opens the whole entry up. Two doors instead of one, and glass where there used to be just a slab.

More light comes into the entryway now, and the house reads differently from the driveway too.

Some updates are easy to describe and hard to picture until you see them side by side.

An iron entry door does two things at once: it's a security upgrade and a design statement.

The look is heavier and more solid than your typical fiberglass or wood door, often with more detailed glass or ironwork built into the design. That weight is part of the security appeal too.

It's a bigger commitment than most entry door choices, both in price and in how much it changes the front of the house. Worth seeing one in person to decide if it's the right fit for your home.

Pro tip: here's how to tell if a door needs replacing instead of repairing.

A door that's drafty around the edges usually just needs new weatherstripping. That's a simple fix, not a sign of a bigger problem.

Look closer if the frame has warped, the corners don't sit square anymore, or the door has swollen from moisture that never fully dries out. Those point to the whole unit, not just a part of it.

Rust on a steel door, or wood that's soft and spongy to the touch, are usually beyond a patch fix.

If more than one of these shows up at once, replacing is often the more straightforward path.

Not every floor is built for a room that gets wet.

A bathroom, a mudroom, a laundry room. Water sits there more than anywhere else in the house. Some flooring handles that well. Some doesn't, no matter how it's installed.

This is one of those decisions worth slowing down on. What works beautifully in a living room can warp, swell, or stain in a room that sees water every day.

If you're planning a wet room, it's worth asking specifically about moisture performance before picking a floor, not after.

No occasion behind this one. Just a thank you.

Thanks to everyone who's stopped by, called with a question, or trusted us with a project this year. Running a local business only works because people choose to come back.

That doesn't need an event attached to it. Just wanted to say it.

A lot of what's back here doesn't get seen from the front of the store.

Rows of doors, boxes of trim, decking stacked and ready to go. Seeing what's actually on the shelf helps more than reading a name off a website.

Stock changes week to week, so it's worth checking before you plan around something specific. But there's usually more back here than people expect.

Why fiber cement siding?

It offers the look of traditional wood siding with the durability today’s homeowners need. Fiber cement stands up well to moisture, pests, fire, and changing weather while offering plenty of flexibility in color and style.

Proper installation and finishing are key to getting the best long-term performance. When those details are handled correctly, fiber cement can protect your home and maintain its curb appeal for years to come.

Considering fiber cement for your home? TLC Elite can help you explore the options.
