In order to help make rent this month, I’m publicly offering something I haven’t offered since 2019: custom made perfume.

Since then, I’ve only taken private custom requests, and I’ve only done three of them.

When you order, I’ll send you an in-depth questionnaire about your favorite things, aesthetics, fears, comfort places, zodiac signs, memories, dream boards, and the little details that make you feel like you. Then I’ll use your answers to create a personal fragrance that feels like your essence. If you’ve ever wanted a perfume that feels like you, your favorite version of yourself, your inner world, your main character energy, your ghost story, your love letter, your villain era, your softest self, or whatever strange little creature lives in your bones, this is your chance. (And for us role players, you can do it as your character for a signature scent for them, too)

Each order includes a 10ml bottle of your custom perfume (Oil based), a refillable decorative perfume bottle, pipettes for decanting, and a handwritten letter explaining the notes I chose and why.

Your formula can also be kept on file for future refills at a lower cost.

These are $100 each because they take a lot of time, care, and adjusting to get right. I’m only taking a limited number of 4 slots. Payment is due when ordering, and I’ll send the questionnaire after your spot is claimed. Formulations take about 6 weeks to settle into their final composition.

Good afternoon, friends! It is July 21st and Pop Fizzion has only done $135 in sales this month. To be candid, I need about $800 more in sales before the end of July just to break even on the shop bills. That does not include paying myself. It does not include replenishing supplies. It is just what I need to cover the basic shop costs like rent and utilities and keep things moving.

June was also painfully slow, which hit hard because Pride is usually one of my stronger months. On top of that, I spent May and June dealing with surgery, medical procedures, recovery, and closures I couldn’t really avoid. Since Pop Fizzion is a one-person shop, when I’m sick or recovering, there is no backup person to keep the doors open, make product, run the register, pack orders, update the site, or do events. It all falls on me. To get through, I had to borrow from my disability emergency fund. I don't have that option for July.

I’m trying to keep the shop open long enough to make it to Halloween season, which is usually my biggest time of year. Halloween sales start around the end of August, but I have to get through this gap first.

I’ve been restocking products that don’t require anyone to take a hot bath in July: sugar scrubs, body wash, whipped soaps, lotion bars, hand soaps, air fresheners, body sprays, room sprays, and other everyday smell-good stuff. Bath bombs are still stocked too, but I know it’s hot as hell and not everyone is in bath mode right now.

If you’ve been meaning to stop by now would be a really good time. Even a small purchase helps. If you can’t buy anything, sharing this post helps too. Telling someone local about the shop helps. Interacting with posts helps. Small businesses are getting hit hard, and I am trying really hard not to quietly drown while pretending everything is fine. I know we're all struggling. I don't begrudge anyone, truly.

Anyway, here's some of the new stuff/restocks!

Today, I want to share the process that goes into making scents for characters. It's something I deeply consider and it takes me a while to blend everything just right.

I made Odysseus today. Some of you know how much I love the Odyssey (I read some to my son every night, my sister has her masters in Greek classics and we've talked about them forever, and of course my deeeeeep love for Epic) and I finally am getting to make things surrounding it.

So this is what I came up with for the character of Odysseus:

Top: ocean water, salt spray, Amalfi lemon, ozone
Heart: olive oil, olive wood, wild rosemary, dark wine, driftwood
Base: leather, mahogany, myrrh & amber incense, ambergris musk, a curl of woodsmoke

So, why did I choose what I did? I built it as a gradient instead of one accord open water, to the rocky shore, to land, to the man because the Odyssey is episodic, so a scent that keeps shifting on each inhale is kind of cool? Ocean water / salt spray / ozone because ten years at sea and Poseidon personally holding a grudge, blowing him off course over and over. The sea is the thing he's defined against, so it has to be the top.

The olive wood/oil/leaf is super important because it's ATHENA'S tree, and his marriage bed is carved from the living tree itself. It's his heart.

Rosemary is the scrub on the rocky Ithaca hillside. It grows abundantly there. Also it carries a "remembrance" association, which is a nice accident for a poem about a man clawing his way back to be recognized again.

Driftwood + mahogany for the ship, the oars, the great hall. The wood of the voyage itself. I think leather is self explanatory for a warrior, yeah?

Dark wine, though, is my favorite. It's his actual weapon in a lot of things (you know, in addition to his cleverness). He gets Polyphemus blackout drunk, then blinds him with the sharpened stake (another tie to the woods). It's also Homer's own phrase, the "wine-dark sea." AND on some inhales it goes fruity enough to catch the lotus-eaters, the narcotic sweetness that makes his crew forget the way home.

Myrrh + incense represent the sacrificial fires all through the poem, and the sacred/underworld register when he literally sails to the land of the dead to ask how to get home and talks with Tiresias.

The ambergris musk is another nod to the sea. The Amalfi lemon is a nod to the coast of Greece. And then at the end a curl of smoke for Troy burning on the horizon, the hearth at Ithaca, and the charred olive stake he drives into the Cyclops' eye.

Anyway.
It took me 3 hours to blend this into something I'm proud of. It'll sit overnight while I let it blend in the bottle, and I'll check it in the morning, and if I like it then I'll turn it into a body wash/bubble bath and maybe a bath bomb.

This is the kind of work you get when you support me and my small business. Just the 'tism doing the 'tism and the nerd doin the nerd. Thank you for everyone who pours into my cup.

Hello, friends! I have a custom that a customer changed their mind over in the shop. It's a bright pink bubble bath shot with sparkle gold mica in it that smells like plum blossom, rose petals, wildflower honey, peony and carnation. It also has a bit of chamomile extract in it for extra skin benefits.

If anyone would like to claim it, it's $10. Please either message me, post here, or come in to grab it :)
