UPDATE ON Kim Nichols Palmatier . Well life took another turn. My leg got infected was admitted back into hospital for surgery to wash out infection. Then needed another surgery for skin graph to cover up the area. Im still in hospital now. Today we are suppose to dangle my foot to make sure everything works OK. Then daily I will add 10 more minutes to the dangle. Once I get to 55min. I can start bearing weight on my foot. One day at a time. But I will get there!

Well life took a crazy turn this weekend. I had a accident and broke my left tibia and fibia and have 3-5 metatarsal fractures , left anterior process calculus fracture. Im a mess to say the least. I can barely walk with a walker , but im doing a little more each day. With that being said my doctor said recovery is 1 to 2 months. My follow up appointment is March 3rd when I will get more info on how long the recovery is. Kathi Gray and Payge Marie will be working so if you need something you can call the salon. Jimmie Fillyaw left Suwannee County Florida in 1953, to join the Army National Guard. In 1954, after serving in the guard, he joined the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Camron Bay. He was also stationed at Maelstrom Air Force (AF) Base, Yokota AF Base in Japan, Nellis AF Base, Dover AF Base, and Dyess AF Base. He was classified in Structural Repair.

During President Johnson's tenure, while stationed at Dover Delaware AF Base (TDY Andrews AF Base), his primary assignment was to work on Air Force Two. Once, during this time period, he was chosen to work on Air Force One. He is very proud of this Honor. His highest rank in the US Air Force is Staff Sergeant.

He received an honorable discharge from the US Air Force in 1968. He then enlisted in the US Navy in 1969. He boarded the USS Independence and headed overseas. He went to several ports including: Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Malta. His Primary Unit was the Fighter Squadron 102 (VF-102) Diamondbacks. His highest rank in the US Navy was Petty Officer 2nd class.

During his career he worked as a Firefighter and was later trained in structural aircraft. He was classified as an Aeronautical Welder. Throughout his military career he received numerous honors including the Good Conduct Medal-Air Force, Good Conduct Medal-Army, Good Conduct Medal- Navy, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal.

If you asked him if he would do it again he will tell you he would, for certain. He states “I would go today if they would let me.” After retiring from the Military he went to school to become a Cosmetologist and then an Instructor of Cosmetology. He is a devoted husband and proud father of 3 children. He has 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
