[03/20/20]   To the colorist, the haircutters, the extension specialist, the owners, the assistants who just got started, the students who just jumped into this field:

This hurts. Closing your doors and walking away was just the first step.
.
Accepting that your job, your passion, your "why," your reason for getting out of bed most days, falls under "non essential..." Whew. Well, that just kind of takes the breath out of you. That's just step 2.
.
Looking at your bank account. Memorizing the numbers, knowing there's no chance of it going up in only God knows how long. Opening and closing the bank apps. Counting and recounting your bills. Well, I'd call that the third step.
.
Then it gets quiet. Then there's hobbies we've created out of thin air. The sound of your own breath is unfamiliar. The fading paint on the walls I never noticed. The temperature staying constant with no blow dryers to put you in a temporary heat stroke. The smell of color replaced with the stale air the rest of the world is used to. The endless amount of food, when we typically miss eating most days... I call this step four.

But then there's step five. The most hopeful step. The step where the hugs come back, and the tears dry up. The step where we remember these days before we complain about our feet ever again. The step where we value every cent our guest spends. The step where we take a chance on the local grocer, the family owned restaurant, the local mechanic. The step where we try that new technique and play with that new product. The step where we stop pretending we ever had any control anyways. The step where we're thankful for the healthy cells flowing through our veins. The step where we actually stop to smell the roses. The step that we appreciate each other a little more, and live a little harder.

That step is coming. There is an end to this. Our industry may be non essential, but damn its all we've got most days. Get ready stylist. Use this time to recharge and rebuild, because the world will need to feel good again soon enough. Our chairs will be full soon again. We were made for this, to put the pieces together and make the world feel beautiful. We will be back soon, together.

Just a note to let everyone know I am still working and doing everything I can to keep myself safe as well as asking all clients to wash their hands when they come in the door. Please. Also if you are feeling sick, please stay home and take care of yourself. We are disinfecting stations,shampoo chairs all railings and waiting area chairs and door handles between every client. Also every client gets a fresh cape.
