Kat’s childhood was dominated with creative, artistic projects and she
couldn’t seem to stop herself. Soon enough her Cabbage Patch dolls had whole new faces and her school was littered with her posters and art. As she matured she made it a point to continue to nurture her skill to create visual beauty by sharpening her makeup skills on supportive friends and family. She found her true calling

There’s something I will never get tired of teaching… color theory.
Not just “this looks good” or “this is trending,” but truly understanding why something works on the skin.
When you understand saturation and value, everything changes.
You stop guessing.
You stop fighting the skin.
You start working with it.
Every color has a depth (value) and an intensity (saturation), and if those don’t align with the skin you’re working on, it’s not going to show up the way you intended. It’s either going to disappear, turn ashy, pull too strong, or just feel off.
You can’t take a color that lives in one value range and expect it to perform the same on the opposite end of the spectrum. It has to meet the skin where it’s at.
This is where real artistry happens.
Not in copying a look, but in understanding how to adapt it for any skin tone and undertone in front of you.
That’s the part I love the most.
Watching it click for students.
Seeing them go from guessing to knowing.
Because once you understand color, you’re not limited anymore.

I got to teach the students how to do light prosthetic makeup and creative face painting today and watching their faces light up when they realize “oh…I CAN do this” is literally my favorite part.
Halloween makeup will always have my heart.
The creativity, the colors, the characters, the artistry… nothing compares.
Teaching magic + making monsters = best day ever.
Everyone please wish my bestie a Happy Birthday!!!! 🎉💖
No matter how far apart we are, you still go out of your way to make sure I feel loved and supported, and I’ll never stop being grateful for that. Not many people can say they’ve had a best friend for over half their lifetime, but I can!
We’ve been causing chaos and keeping each other sane since 1999, and honestly, the world should thank us for it. 😂 From the wild adventures to the deep talks, the laughs, the tears, and the inside jokes no one else will ever get, you’ve been my day one, my ride or die, my forever friend.
Love you to pieces, bestie. Here’s to more memories, more laughter, and more beautiful chaos together. 💕🥂🎂

Today I taught the first of a 4 day series of Advanced Makeup at Denver School of Botanical and Medical Aesthetics. Our students had a blast learning the basics of color theory as it applies to makeup artistry. Then they learned to make their own foundation shade and understand that every person's skin tone is made up of several different colors. The lovely Belinda was my model today. Her entire complexion (foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer) and lip color was created with the Ben Nye Makeup Creme Color Primary Stack. No filter under the Makeup Light.

Thank you Celeste for being my lovely model in class today. We went over a basic day makeup look. Clean fresh and pretty. And yes...... She does have a full face of makeup on! It doesn't have to look like makeup. Something I stress to my students. Complexion is so important!
