Happy to announce that A Touch of Peace: Massage Therapy & Bodywork is reopening June 1st! I have been working hard and researching the best way to ensure a safe and relaxing massage environment where extra precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me and be there during this difficult time. Without each and every one of you, this may not have been possible and I appreciate all of you!

Appeasing both my doshas today with this delicious snack: Sweet Potato Toast! 🍞

One set has hummus, avocado, sea salt, cumin, and lemon juice on top. (Vata)

The other has homemade coconut yogurt, berries, and hemp seeds (Pitta)

Yummy, Satisfying and Easy!

Just bake the potatoes at 350 degrees for 25-40 minutes. Let them cool completely and stow in plastic bag. When ready to use pop them in the toaster and add your ingredients!

All you need are some protein rich vegan noodles, one carrot, one zucchini, one beet, and edamame. Sesame seeds and limes are optional.

To make the dressing combine almond butter, sesame oil, garlic (omit for Pitta dosha), water, apple cider vinegar, lime juice, ginger, and some salt.

Morning stretch routine to both honor yourself and to honor the sun!

In Ayurveda, it is important to wake up (normally at sunrise) and perform a sun salutation to wake up your body and to honor the thing that gives you life--the sun.

Although, we have many muscles in our lower back, the one that tends to cause the most pain is the deepest muscle called the quadratus lumborum.

Since almost everyone works at a desk nowadays, this muscles tends to get overstretched and pulled down by the pelvis because of tight hamstrings and loose quads. These tight leg muscles also affect the hips, mostly our lateral rotators, which--when tight--pull on our sacrum even more.
.

A way to help with low back pain is to make sure to stretch your legs and your hips to help prevent them from pulling down on your pelvis. My previous video has some good stretches if you need some!

Since I am unable to help my clients hands on for the next 6 weeks, i have decided to make a video series for common muscular discomforts and how to help them.

First is for low back pain! This is my first video, so please ignore my poor form. Cat-Cow is a great way to help release any low to mid back pain. It really helps to stretch the back, torso and neck while also softly strengthening the abdominal muscles -> which are a main factor in low back issues.
.
.
Child's pose is another pose to help any low back pain since it stretches the hips, thighs, and ankles and releases some adhesions that have built up. Most low back pain is attributed to tight hips and thighs, so this is a great release.
.
.
Lastly, downward dog is great for stretching that upper back, the hamstrings, and your calves! Hamstrings like to pull the pelvis down, which then pull the low back down causing it to overstretch.
.
.
Doing this simple routine every morning can help low back pain, especially the kind that is linked to working at a desk and sitting all day.

I do not take this decision lightly as this practice is my only source of income. It is unknown how long this closure will be in effect, but you are welcome to set up a new appointment using my online scheduler for a few weeks out, but know that everything tentative at the moment while this unfolds.
