2. '3rd generation' ~ We are all hairdressers in my family. Both sets of my grandparents, both my mother and my father, all my uncles and aunts and my brother and his wife who took over the family business in Stuttgart - Germany. (www.haarramp.de)
Just imagine if you can, family get togethers, christmases, birthdays... talking about hair, products, techniques, favorite clients, crazy clients, even more crazy co-workers with everybody chiming in! It's the kind of weird fun that maybe only my brother can fully appreciate!

3. ' German' ~ I was born and raised in Germany and had made Berlin my home until I moved to Denver at the age of 27. In Germany it takes 3 years to become a hairdresser. Part school, part apprenticeship. I loved my very first salon where I apprenticed - "Haarstudio Heinz Klinger" in Stuttgart. Much to the dismay of my father who was a accomplished competition hairdresser in his days in east Germany and all about finishing and styling, this salon was much more modern, quite liberal in it's leadership and all about the haircut and cutting edge techniques..

4. 'master hairdresser' ~ Once you've been a licensed hairdresser for several years you have the option of going back to school to get your master (the lawful equivalent of a bachelor). You can only open up your own salon and train others if you have your masters diploma. At 23 years of age I didn't know yet if this would be the route I would take. I pursued my master's diploma because I love learning and knowing.
