There are so many factors to mental health but I hear and see nutrition often get overlooked. Let’s open ourselves to the role nutrition has on a deeper level. After all, it’s protein building blocks (aka amino acids), vitamins and minerals that make our neurotransmitters!

A little info on seed cycling and with the pros and cons to giving it a try. Do you seed cycle? Let me know if you notice a difference or if it did nothing for you. After I started seed cycling it took a fee months but my cycles did become more regular. Yay! Still, I have to keep in mind there are other changes I have made that could in combination made the difference. Without the research we can’t say for sure that seed cycling alone will do the trick but I often find it can’t hurt! And honesty, there are so many variables I don’t think it would be possible to have conclusive research.

Can What We Eat Affect How We Feel? 05/02/2019

May is Mental Health Month! As a functional dietitian, I support mental health through nutrition, gut health, genomics, and lifestyle. Here is a great article by the The New York Times that discusses just some of the work we can do to support mental health with food and nutrients. So excited to see this becoming more mainstream.

Thank you BaMidbar Wilderness Therapy for sharing this article with me!

Can What We Eat Affect How We Feel? Nutritional psychiatrists counsel patients on how better eating may be another tool in helping to ease depression and anxiety and may lead to better mental health.

Scientists say they've discovered an unknown human organ that could help explain cancer 02/28/2019

Did you know that scientists have recently discovered a new organ?! The Interstitium is a connection of small water ducts that are believed to be an important part of our immune system. This new organ may also explain how cancer spreads.

I can't wait to see what other new information this discovery will bring!

Scientists say they've discovered an unknown human organ that could help explain cancer The interstitium was right there under our noses (and skin) all along, but it took a new way of examining tissues to figure it out.

Are we really five weeks into the new year? This week the it to take a step back and look at how you are incorporating the past four challenges. In order to really incorporate these lifestyle changes take time to check in with yourself and see how you are doing. Where are there opportunities to make improvements?
🔨
Are you feeling hydrated? Less hangry? More rested? Or less stressed?
🔧
If my goals haven’t clicked in your life, I added an extra visual that can apply to anyone. All we have been working on are ways to hydrate, eat food, improve sleep and add movement into our day. How have you been doing this with your own goals?

Week four of the !!! Let’s get some extra steps in. It doesn’t matter if you workout already or haven’t exercised in a while, this goal is a great way to add movement and stress relief into your day. Taking a break from work, school, or a busy life to get a ten minute walk in is doable for anyone! I mean how often do we spend that time wasted on screens? ✋ I’ll admit, some days I get focused and don’t move my body much, but that’s why we have this goal. Let’s keep each other accountable.
🌞
Another reason I love this goal, when the weather is warm enough, it gives you some sun exposure. This will increase mood, vitamin d levels, and help you sleep better at night.

Good morning! After last week I had a number of you tell me you wanted to see more of what I eat for breakfast to get ideas. Today was an egg, shredded Brussels sprouts, and a ricecracker with tahini, and lox. Not in the picture is a handful of blueberries and a glass of grass-fed milk.

Ok let’s do this! This weeks is to avoid blue light after dark. I am setting this goal for myself but it’s a good idea for anyone looking to reduce stress and improve sleep. Blue light actually blocks our body from producing melatonin, our sleepy hormone.
🌞
I recently ran a on myself and saw my melatonin was on the lower end. To help I am going to avoid screens after 10pm (slowly rolling that back), wear blue light blocking glasses after dark, and set up some red light bulbs around the house.
