This is what a chemical cut can look like, and this is what a carefully planned correction can do!🤍

When this client came to Crystal, her hair had experienced what we call a “chemical cut”.
This happens when hair becomes so compromised from chemical processing, often from over processing with bleach, that the integrity of the hair can no longer withstand it. Instead of simply feeling dry or damaged, the hair actually begins breaking off, sometimes dramatically.

This is exactly why maintaining the integrity of the hair has to come first before going lighter. But having compromised blonde hair doesn’t necessarily mean the only option is to cover it up and go dark! 🤎 This client still wanted to be blonde, so Crystal created a plan that allowed her to keep the brightness she wanted, while prioritizing the health of the hair she still had!

—>At the first appointment, Crystal carefully toned and corrected her existing blonde to create a softer, more even color without putting her fragile hair through another aggressive lightening process.

—>At her second appointment, she installed a customized combination of weft and K-tip extensions to restore the length, density and shape she only had dreamed of!! And the result speaks for itself. 🤍

Extensions aren’t always just about wanting longer hair. In the right hands, they can be an incredible tool for someone dealing with significant breakage or loss of density while giving their natural hair time to recover and grow.
Now the goal is to protect what she has left, strengthen and grow! 🌱

At Proper there is no judgement for doing a service at home. We are always here to help! We are all guilty of it at one time or other. This is why we offer advice to anyone looking to do something themselves or just corrective advice when it didn’t go to plan! 🫶🏼

A message to our community from our founder:

I honestly don’t even know where to start with this one. 😭

I have been nominated by a few people, without me knowing, for the 2026 She Means Business Award! Now I am alongside an incredible group of women in the Lake Norman community up for this award. I was in tears reading what they wrote in my nomination. I am truly honored. 🫶🏼

When Proper first started nearly a decade ago, it was three women (my sister, my best friend and me), two treatment beds in one tiny room and a dream! To bring a much needed beauty bar to Denver. A place women could work along side each other and make other women feel like their best self without sacrificing quality or having to drive an hour to get one of these services done. Being a mother of 3 and a woman of Denver I knew what it needed long before people knew they needed it!

I know what it’s like to be a young mom. I know what it’s like to work somewhere your life has to fit around your job instead of your job fitting into your life. One of the things I’m most proud of is building a place where women can create real careers, become financially independent and still have the flexibility to be present for their families, prioritize the things that matter to them and have a life outside of work.

It’s most certainly not been easy. We’ve made it through some really beautiful seasons and some REALLY hard ones. We’ve grown, changed, rebuilt, taken chances, survived COVID shutdowns, added new treatment rooms, supported other small businesses, and served our community time and time again.

But when I read what was written about me for this nomination, what hit me the hardest wasn’t the massive growth of Proper or any awards or certifications we’ve received. It was realizing how much of my purpose is still rooted in creating opportunities for other women and serving others. This was my core motivation from day one, and it’s really special to see that it’s still such a driving force behind what I do today.

Somewhere along the way, all of YOU turned this dream of mine into a Proper community! I will never take that for granted. You’ve trusted us with your faces, hair, lashes, brows, skin, stories, milestones, tears and probably way too much information during some of those appointments. 😂 You’ve supported our events, our team, other local businesses alongside us, and continued showing up for Proper year after year. 🤝

So while my name may be on this nomination, Proper wasn’t built by one person. It’s always been about each other. 🫶

To the women who are working inside these walls, every client who has trusted us, every business that has collaborated with us and every person who has recommended Proper to a friend: this nomination has your fingerprints all over it!

I’m incredibly honored, incredibly grateful, and still a little in disbelief that the vision I had all those years ago has brought us here. Today, it has become so much more than I ever imagined.
