Several years ago, I was doing my partner’s hair and he told me it was the first time he’s ever had a good experience in a salon. Salon’s are often a scary place for trans and non-binary people. It became my goal then to create places where trans people could feel heard and seen by a stylist who can give them the haircut they actually want. I created Free Hair Day to service LGBTQIA+ clients who need a great haircut without the salon price. Now we want to show these kids how much the community cares for them even when our government doesn’t. I, and many salons and stylists across the metro, are doing hair for trans and non-binary students for free on 3/31. Allow me to reintroduce myself.. My name is Tish.
Or Tisha, but that didn't work with the song. I've been a hairstylist since 2013. I'm a creative at heart and I love to get my hands dirty, but being able to make people look and feel more like their happy, truest selves is what makes me the happiest. I specialize in gender-affirming services and bleach, but I love to do everything from a blunt no-layer haircut to a rainbow buzz cut with leopard print. I'm a part of the which was a finalist team in 2021 for the Midwest Hairstyling Awards, as well as the 2022 North American Hairstyling Awards. This year, we won Artistic Team of the Year at MHA and I was named as a finalist for Barber of the Year. Keep your fingers crossed for my upcoming competitions!
I love to travel and want to see the world. I haven't left the country yet but I've really enjoyed seeing the many landscapes and cities this country has to offer. Some of my favorite trips have been Hawaii, NYC, and Colorado. I love to camp and hike, but I also love a relaxing beach trip and the energy of a big city.
I'm a mental health advocate and have struggled with my own, as many have. I am currently 1 year sober/in recovery from alcohol and I'm in a better place mentally than I've been all my life. I also have "long covid" and have been working on regaining my energy since July of this year. I'm so appreciative of my clients for being flexible with scheduling and supporting me. I will always remember the love and support I feel from this community.
I like to paint, watch TV/movies, take pictures, and read. I have a dog, two cats, and a long-term partner I love very much. We live downtown in a beautiful loft. I love this community and love giving as much as I can to it.. I'm trying to show up more here and on Tik Tok and I'd love you to join me.

In September, the .collectivvv and I won Artistic Team of the Year for our collection of Schiaparelli-inspired looks. This collection was so fun and challenging to pull off. From buying all the gold spray paint in Des Moines to Kristen and Margaret crafting a 3 feet wide hair halo, we all pulled together and made the magic happen.
I was excited to use our image to challenge the gender binary and bring some representation into the world of hair artistry. Our model, was the perfect fit for me and my partner on the look, and I really enjoyed working with them to create our badass image. Thanks for rolling with us all the way through the point when I had to feed you between shots.
Thank you to all the stylists, assistants, artists, and everyone else who brought our collection to life. I'm so grateful to be a part of this team and I can't wait to get together again and see what we dream up for our next collection.
