𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜 & we’ve all heard it:

“avoid getting your lashes wet/steam/crying for 24 hours”

𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓? yes & no. I’m gonna trrryy to keep this short & sweet so keep reading for some knowledge 🤓

I’m gonna focus on [methyl-cyanoacrylate] & [ethyl-cyanoacrylate]

𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐥-𝐜𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐲𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 was used in the older formulas of glues. this type of cyanoacrylate is toxic & creates a weak bond. it’s not humidity/temp/oil resistant, making it really important to keep moisture away in order for the glue molecules to bond. for this reason, glues containing this ingredient DO need a full 24 hours to cure.

𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐥-𝐜𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐲𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 is what is typically used in today’s glue formulas & is humidity/temp/oil resistant once cured. this cyanoacrylate cures within the first few MINUTES & the molecules continue to build a stronger bond over the next 24 hours.

glue has made some advances over the years 😉 so, unless your glue is methyl-cyanoacrylate based (most glues now aren’t), not getting your lashes wet for 24 hrs has more to do with letting your lashes rest unbothered to create its strongest bond.
water itself doesn’t affect the glue! (hello nebulizer, after treatment bonders??)
