Sisterlocks™ is done with a tool. A loc is created at the root of the hair by weaving the existing hair or loc through its roots. This is a intricate process that requires looping the hair in different directions. One of the advantages of this method is that the loc will remain neat between washing for a period of 4 to 6 weeks. This method is recommended especially for those that like to wash and wear with little maintenance. It provides the wearer with maximum stylability. Twists
The twist method is a method used specifically with kinky hair types. This method uses the rope twist or double strand technique to cultivate the loc. The hair is twisted off the scalp and the roots are loced using the interlocking method and should be maintained with an interlocking appointment every 4 to 6 weeks. Coil or Comb Twists
The coil or comb twist method is the preferred method for short kinky hair types. Small coils are created using a tail comb or the fingers and locing gel. After the hair is comb twisted it is then set under the hair dyer until the gel evaporates into the hair. After 3-4 weeks the coils can be re-twisted with by comb/fingers or interlocked to maintain the beginner loc.This is the most popular locing method and is also used to maintain mature locs. Hair cannot be washed between appointments. Loc Extensions
Loc extensions may be semi-permanent to permanent method depending on the hair used for the process. Semi-permanent loc extensions are created with the Synthetic Afro Kinky Bulk hair. The permanent extension uses 100% Afro Kinky Bulk human hair to create the locs.The hair is twisted and wrapped to create a loc and not only looks and feels natural but also does not have to be removed your natural hair will begin to loc underneath. This process takes between 8-20 hours to be completed, depending on the length and the volume of locs desired. Loc Wraps
Loc wraps are done by wrapping human hair to the root of the locs. This is process is specifically for locs that are thinning at the roots or locs with thin spots or excess loose hair. After this process any future growth will blend into that wrap naturally. Can I loc with a perm (relaxed) hair? Relaxed hair cannot be locked. However, there are three ways by which one can go from processed hair to locs. The 1st method is by twisting and the 2nd by braiding. Two to three 3 inches of new growth are required. After braiding or twisting an flatloc tool is used to create a loc at the root. As the hair grows, you will return to have the roots interlocked i.e. every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the rate of growth.The relaxed hair is eventually cut off when the hair reaches an appropriate length. The 3rd method involves loc extensions which may be temporary or permanent depending on the individual. Can I re-attach my locs? If you previously had locs and would like to have them re-attached this can be achieved by either sewing the loc to the loose hair or a combination of sewing then wrapping the loc. Depending on the size of the locs this process can be broken down into 1-3 days. What is Palm Rolling? The palm rolling technique the locs are sectioned by separating the new growth around the roots of the respective loc. The loose hairs are then wrapped around the loc to encourage the new growth to loc. Palm rolling is the best method to attain and maintain smooth locs it encourages uniformity and training.The disadvantages of this method of grooming is that the locs will need to be palm rolled after each wash as this method does loc the hair at the root but instead allows the loc to form freely. What products should I use to maintain my locs? By trial and error I have found the following products to produce the good results: Murray's Gel Loc-Lock, Organics by Africa's Best Twist & Loc Gel, and all of the Jamaican Mango & Lime products. These products leave no residue in the hair and also help to moisturize the hair. Please avoid beeswax. Can you unlock the hair? Locked hair does not need to be cut from the scalp to reverse the locking process. Although it can take several hours, mature locs can be removed by soaking the hair in lots of conditioner and gently combing out the knotted hair from the ends. Where can I get the human hair for the loc extensions? The Afro Kinky Bulk Human Hair can be found in many beauty supply stores usually 10-14" in length. It can also be purchased online in longer lengths. You may also purchase the synthetic hair of the same name for a semi-permanent look.
