It is with heavy hearts that we inform you, our passionate and vibrant community of supporters and loyal clients, of our decision not to reopen our doors on Library Street.

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have made it challenging for us to continue to serve our clientele in a way that is authentic to the Detroit Blows model. Our business is one rooted in health, wellness, and equitable access to the services we provide. We have always been steadfast in our commitment to the well-being of our team and client family, and we do not feel as though we can uphold our service and hospitality standards in the current environment. The Detroit Blows experience is a high-touch interaction, committed to non-toxic beauty; the “new normal” in which we now live makes it nearly impossible to deliver on the foundational pillars of the brand and the promise we made to all of you.

While this is not the finale we envisioned for Detroit Blows, we are incredibly proud of the brand we built -- one that provided a welcoming space to a wide range of clientele; one that addressed the ever-pervasive disparity in the beauty industry head on; one that challenged standards and made impact a priority. And none of that would be possible without you.

Know that the spirit and energy of Detroit Blows will live on through our philanthropic arm, Detroit Grows, which we hope to use as a platform to both engage with and amplify the voices within this community that we’ve cultivated over the past 2.5 years. We’re incredibly proud that to date, we’ve reinvested more than $30K in women in Detroit through our grant-making efforts, and look forward to finding ways to continue to uplift their work. We are energized by the idea that this platform can continue to be a space for advocacy, impact, and our unwavering support for underrepresented voices. More on that in the coming weeks!

For those of you who came in for a blowout or beauty service, who made an online purchase, who simply followed us from afar and supported our mission, we thank you and look forward to continuing the conversation outside of the four walls of our brick-and-mortar space.
