Weather is always changing here in Michigan, which may mean seasonal Eczema flares for some people. 🥶 If that’s you or someone you know, check out these four Dermatologist recommended tips. 👩🏽‍⚕️🧴

⚠️ But what exactly is Eczema?
Eczema is a type of chronic skin condition that typically presents itself in babies/children, but can also have a delayed/seasonal presentation throughout life. It usually appears in patches behind the knees, behind the neck, or in the folds of the arms. It is most common in people with a family history of eczema, seasonal allergies/hay fever, or asthma.

🟣 Clean skin is happy skin. But for eczema prone skin, shorter lukewarm showers are advised 🛀. Excessive washing with water that is too hot can trigger flares by stripping the skin of its natural oils. For eczema prone skin, minimizing friction & preserving moisture are vital for preventing flares.

🟣 Preserving moisture can be done in multiple ways, the first being done with a gentle cleanser. 🧼 A mildly foaming, unscented cleanser is advised for eczema prone skin as foaming agents have a tendency to strip the skin, which is a no-no for eczema prone skin.

🟣 Moisturizing within 5-10min of showering, with a thick unscented cream is another way of maximizing your skin’s moisture retention. Thick creams are recommended for eczema prone skin because “lotions” have a higher water content, and evaporate off of the skin quicker. Locking in hydration and moisture can be done with , or any other thick unscented cream.

🟣 Fragrant personal care products like soaps, body sprays, and detergents can sometimes be the culprit for widespread eczema flares. Flares triggered by these factors can occur wherever direct contact is most frequent, like the hands, underarms/torso, as well as the previously mentioned areas. Using products, clothing detergent, and indirectly spraying perfume/body spray are a few alternative ways to stay fresh, and flare free. 🧖🏾‍♀️✨
