Interview filmed and edited by Sarah Grocki
Radio personality and Detroit Pistons PA announcer John Mason used to have characters on his radio and TV shows. The most popular character was Ducee, and Mason sent Ducee to Hump The Grinder's HAIR WARS at the International Marketplace in Greektown. This clip was inserted at the end of the Hair Wars documentary while we were rolling the staff credits.
This is a classic.

Hair Wars has been more than stage shows. We did hair classes in over 25 cities, teaching techniques by Detroit's hottest hair educators.
The biggest seminar tour I produced was the Karl Reed Hair Educational Tour, which traveled to over 20 cities over a 2-year period. The entire country wanted some of Detroit hair.
This photo was taken at the first hair class in Los Angeles in 1994, which attracted over 200 attendees.
Karl Reed is still cranking out award-winning hair styles at his salon called Menzie's on Ryan Rd. in Warren, Michigan.

The story behind this photo:
The Saturday night before the Sunday Hair Wars show in Atlanta, participating hair entertainers put on a sneak peek preview show outside the CNN Building. The fantasy hair models caused a traffic jam in downtown Atlanta and several motorcycle police pulled up. The police were so fascinated with the hairdos, they allowed the models to sit on the bikes to take photos.
