Why I Use Norvell. Why I Always Will.

I started spray tanning in 2010. I was 18 years old.

Back then, I wasn’t a tanning consultant. I wasn’t a manager. I wasn’t a trainer.

I was the girl cleaning tanning beds.

The glorified “bed cleaner,” as I like to joke.

I wiped up sweat, cleaned rooms, folded towels, and got everything ready for the next guest. But while I was cleaning those rooms, I was listening. I listened to the girls up front talk about lotions, memberships, skin care, and spray tans. I made it my mission to learn every product we carried because I was determined to earn my way to the front counter one day.

Before that happened, something unexpected happened.

The salon got busy. Really busy.

They needed someone who could help spray tan clients while the experienced consultants handled the traffic up front. Since clients already recognized me from around the salon, they trusted me enough to give me a chance.

I’ll never forget my very first spray tan client.

She was an older woman. Sweet. Patient.

It probably took me twenty minutes to spray her because I was terrified. I wanted every pass to be perfect. I was a nervous wreck. At 18 years old, I don’t think I’d ever even seen a half naked woman before, much less been responsible for giving one a flawless spray tan.

When she handed me a $20 tip, I thought I’d won the lottery.

I was hooked.

Before long, clients started requesting me by name. I loved educating people about their skin, helping them choose the right products, and teaching them how to care for their tan. I was selling aftercare products before I was even officially a tanning consultant.

Not long after that, I became one of the girls up front.

Then I became a salon manager.

Then, at 20 years old, I was promoted to District Airbrush Director.

Apparently no one had moved up that fast before.

But no one needed it like I did.

My grandparents, who raised me, had both passed away in 2009. I didn’t have anyone to fall back on. I dropped out of college and poured everything I had into this industry.

And I loved it.

All of it.

But spray tanning was where my heart lived.

Every spray tan felt like an adrenaline rush. Every client was different. Every skin tone was a puzzle to solve. It never got old.

Then in 2012, life threw me another challenge.

I suffered an injury to my right hand and suddenly had to learn how to spray tan with my left.

If you’ve ever held a spray gun, you know that’s not as simple as just switching hands.

Everything felt backwards.

The angles.

The pressure.

The muscle memory.

All of it.

But I wasn’t about to stop doing what I loved, so I practiced until spraying left handed felt just as natural as spraying right handed.

Fun fact: because of that injury, I can spray tan with either hand today.

Not exactly a skill I expected to have, but it’s come in handy more times than you’d think over the last 16 years.

And through all of it, there was one constant.

Norvell.

Back then, our lineup looked a little different. We had Light, Dark, Double Dark, Black Out, and Venetian had just been released.

Then came one of the proudest moments of my career.

I earned my Norvell Master Airbrush Certification.

If you’re not familiar with what that means, it’s not something you buy.

You earn it.

A Norvell representative literally watches your technique, evaluates your application, and signs off that you know what you’re doing. Once you become Master Certified, you’re qualified to train other spray tan artists.

And if you ever worked at one of the salons I managed, then you knew Andy.

Andy was married to Joy Norvell, and Rick Norvell, Joy’s son and Andy’s stepson, went on to build Norvell Skin Solutions into the industry leader it is today.

Back then, Andy would pull up in his white van, usually on Monday mornings, delivering solutions and lotions to each of our salon locations. You could almost set your watch by it. If it was Monday and you saw that white van pull in, you knew Andy was there.

Those visits became something we all looked forward to. He always knew what products were performing well, what we needed to stock up on, and just as importantly, what we didn’t need. There was never a hard sales pitch. He genuinely wanted salons to succeed.

If you didn’t know him well, you might have thought he was quiet or hard to read. But once you got to know him, you realized he had one of the biggest hearts in the industry.

When I earned my Master Certification, Andy was the one evaluating me.

He stood right behind me the entire time.

“Go slower.”

“Further away.”

“Don’t start there.”

“You’re wasting solution.”

Every correction had a purpose. Every detail mattered.

He taught me how to troubleshoot solutions, how to properly clean and maintain an M1000 spray gun, and why keeping that needle spotless wasn’t optional. Those lessons stuck with me, and honestly, I still hear his voice in my head sometimes when I’m spraying.

Andy still drives a white fan and works for Norvell and he’ll be 96 at the end of the month.

Once I became Master Certified, I began training employees across multiple salon locations.

If someone had a bad spray tan somewhere else and was scared to try again, they came to me.

If a high profile client needed a spray tan, they came to me.

Bodybuilders.

Beauty queens.

Brides.

Prom girls.

You name it.

I’ve sprayed them all.

And after all these years, after trying countless brands and solutions, I always find myself coming back to Norvell.

Why?

Because they’ve never stopped caring about quality.

Norvell manufactures their own products, maintaining complete control over formulation, testing, and production. Their solutions are made with premium naturally derived DHA, advanced bronzers, antioxidants, and moisturizers. They formulate their products to avoid orange undertones while creating natural looking, long lasting results.

But the truth is, my loyalty goes deeper than ingredients.

When someone asks why I use Norvell, the answer isn’t just because it’s a great product.

It’s because I’ve grown up with this company.

I’ve learned from the people behind it.

I’ve built my career with it.

Every time I pick up a spray gun, I think about the lessons Andy taught me.

Every time I watch a client look in the mirror and smile, I’m reminded why I fell in love with this industry in the first place.

So when someone asks why I use Norvell, the answer goes a lot deeper than ingredients and color results.

It’s 16 years of memories.

It’s the first $20 tip that made an 18 year old girl feel like she had found her place.

It’s the late nights, the education, the mentors, and the clients who trusted me with some of the biggest moments of their lives.

It’s learning to spray with my left hand when my right hand couldn’t do the job.

It’s becoming a manager, a trainer, a District Airbrush Director, and a Master Certified Artist before I was old enough to rent a car.

It’s Andy.

It’s Joy.

It’s Rick.

It’s a company that has stayed true to what made it great in the first place.

And after 16 years, thousands of spray tans, hundreds of artists trained, and countless solutions I’ve tested along the way, Norvell is still the one I trust with my clients.

That’s why it’s in my spray gun today.

And that’s why it always feels a little like coming home. 🤎

And *some* of my people have spoke 😉🫶🏼
Shout out to all my clients. The ones that leave reviews, the ones that don’t have time to, the ones that refer the people they love, the ones that keep coming back time after time, the ones that come in terrified and leave a new friend, the ones that let me be apart of their life’s biggest moments, and their days they just want some color, and the ones I haven’t met yet.

It is never just a spray tan, and you are never just a client. You literally make my day, every session, every after photo you send me, every question you ask me that you think is “silly”. I love it all, and I love you all!

Loved getting to spray this sweet momma for such a special season 🤍
Hearing “it keeps me feeling like a human” meant more than she probably knows. So excited for you, Carlie ✨

Still smiling about this one 🤍

I was flying home from Mexico, 33,000 feet in the air, when I got a message from a sweet mom in full panic after a booking mix up with another business that has a similar name to mine. Prom was the next day and they needed sprays that night.

My flight landed and we made it happen.

These two EHM prom girlies were the absolute sweetest. The kind of people you feel like you’ve known forever. We could have talked all night and honestly, those are the moments that remind me why I love what I do so much.

It’s crazy how God can take a stressful moment and turn it into something so beautiful. I’m just really grateful I got to be a small part of their prom memories 🤍

Moral of the story, if I’m in the country, we’re gonna figure it out 😂

Okay this one feels totally different energy 💙

Not every glow has to be over the top… sometimes it’s just clean, natural, and compliments everything perfectly.

Lu wanted something that enhanced her, not covered her up and that’s exactly what we did. Just enough warmth to make that blue pop, even out her skin, and give her that effortless, “I just look really good” kind of tan.

And can we talk about this dress with the sneakers?! Obsessed. Comfortable and still showing UP 👏🏼

This is your reminder that your tan should match you your vibe, your outfit, your comfort.

Lu, you look so good girl!! I hope you had the best night 💫

If you’re not sure what to book or how dark to go, that’s my job. I got you.

I wasn’t planning on posting prom pics just yet… but when Presley’s mom sent this, I had to 😍

This girl is an actual QUEEN. The dress, the glow, the confidence… everything came together perfectly.

We custom mixed her solution with 75% Rapid Venetian + 25% Tuscan Plus to give her that rich, warm, flawless depth that complements her so beautifully and photographs like a dream.

Moments like this are why I love what I do… getting to be a small part of such big memories and helping these girls feel their absolute best 🫶🏼

Presley, you are stunning 💖 I hope you had the best night!!

If you’ve got a big event coming up, let’s get you glowing too ✨

Not every glow is created the same, and not every experience is either ✨

Lately I’ve had so much fun with my prom girls. Not just spraying them, but actually building their perfect tan. Matching their natural undertones, their dress colors, how deep they want to go, and working around all the little details like existing tan lines or figuring out how to avoid new ones. It’s been a whole process and honestly one of my favorite parts of what I do 🤍

And I’ll say this in the most respectful way. When you come to me, you’re getting the full experience. I don’t believe in charging extra for things that should already be part of a quality spray. Your prep, your finishing spray, your customization, your layers. It’s all included because that’s how you get the best results. Period.

CWHS prom is this weekend and I have a couple spots left 👀
If you’re booking, Wednesday is the earliest I’d go, but Thursday and Friday are your ideal days.

Most tans last about 5 to 7 days, but in my opinion they look their absolute BEST days 3 to 4. Right when you need to be glowing ✨

I seriously cannot wait to share all my CMS, BMS, DMS, and EHHS prom girlies, but for now here’s a little sneak peek of some tan lines we’ve been working with 😍

I can’t wait to see all my bronzed baddies out there glowingggg 🔥

Stay beautiful, stay confident… but also stay nice 💅😉

Now go break some necks (in the best way) 💃✨

MOMMA WE MADE IT 😂

Okay but for real… this one feels different.

What started with a pop up tent and a dream has grown into something I’m so proud of. I officially upgraded to a full spray tan arena and it’s not just about looks… it’s about leveling up the entire experience for YOU.

More space
Better airflow and exhaust
Perfect lighting (like… PERFECT)
And a setup that finally matches the standard I’ve always held myself to

I’ve spent years perfecting my craft, learning bodies, tones, and technique… and now I have a space that reflects that growth.

It may seem like just an upgrade… but to me it’s a reminder of how far this business has come. Every client, every referral, every share, every appointment… it all built this.

So yeah… MOMMA WE MADE IT… and we’re just getting started 🤎
