🧬 Vitamin B3 does more than support energy metabolism — but it is not a “natural antibiotic.”

Vitamin B3, also called niacin, is essential for converting food into usable energy and supporting normal cellular function. One form, nicotinamide/niacinamide, has also been studied for its effects on immune-cell activity.

Research has shown that nicotinamide can influence pathways involved in neutrophil function and antimicrobial activity. In laboratory and animal research, it enhanced neutrophil killing of Staphylococcus aureus. That is interesting science — but it does not mean vitamin B3 should replace antibiotics or be used as a treatment for bacterial infection.

It is also important to be cautious with dosing. High-dose niacin or nicotinamide is not automatically harmless because it is a vitamin. Supplemental niacin can cause flushing, dizziness, GI symptoms, changes in blood sugar, and at higher doses can contribute to liver toxicity. The NIH lists an adult upper intake level of 35 mg/day from supplements for routine unsupervised use, while higher therapeutic doses should be medically supervised.

The takeaway: B3 is an important nutrient and an interesting area of immune research, but more is not always better and it is not a substitute for appropriate medical treatment.

That is exactly why we prefer an individualized approach — look at symptoms, nutrition, medications, labs, and actual need before adding high-dose supplements.

Live. Laugh. Lactated Ringer’s. 💧😂

But what’s actually the difference between Lactated Ringer’s (LR) and Normal Saline (NS)?

Both are IV fluids used to support hydration, but they’re formulated differently.

Normal Saline (NS) contains sodium and chloride. It’s widely used, straightforward, and appropriate in many situations—but larger amounts can sometimes contribute to a higher chloride load.

Lactated Ringer’s (LR) contains sodium and chloride too, but also includes small amounts of potassium, calcium, and lactate, making its electrolyte composition somewhat closer to plasma. In many clinical settings, balanced crystalloids like LR are favored because they may be less likely to cause hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis than large volumes of normal saline.

That doesn’t mean LR is always “better.” The right fluid depends on the person, their health history, medications, kidney function, electrolyte status, and clinical situation.

At IV League Wellness, fluid choice is individualized rather than one-size-fits-all.

💧 How often should you get an IV?

There isn’t one schedule that fits everyone. IV frequency should depend on your health history, hydration needs, symptoms, goals, medications, labs, and how you respond to treatment.

For some people, an occasional infusion around travel, illness recovery, or a high-demand weekend may be enough. Others may use IV therapy periodically as part of a broader wellness or athletic-recovery plan. When IV therapy is being used for a documented deficiency or a specific medical concern, frequency should be determined by the prescribing provider and may require repeat labs and closer monitoring.

More frequent IV therapy is not automatically better. The safest plan is the one that is individualized and adjusted as your health needs change.

🧪 Your health goals should not come with a one-size-fits-all plan.

At IV League Wellness, we start with you — your symptoms, health history, medications, nutrition, sleep, stress, movement, hormones, current labs, and what you actually want to improve.

Maybe your goal is better energy. Maybe it is recovery, body composition, hormone support, fewer nutrient deficiencies, better metabolic health, improved sleep, or simply feeling more like yourself again.

That is where an individualized functional approach can help.

We may look at:
• Current symptoms and patterns
• Nutrition and lifestyle habits
• Medication and supplement use
• Functional and conventional lab trends
• Nutrient status
• Thyroid and hormone markers
• Blood sugar and metabolic health
• Iron, B12, folate, vitamin D, and other deficiencies when appropriate
• Body composition and progress over time

The goal is not to order every lab possible or add supplements blindly. It is to use the right information to identify patterns, correct what is actually off, and build a realistic plan around your goals.

That plan may include nutrition changes, hydration support, IV or IM therapy when appropriate, supplements, hormone or peptide consultations, movement and recovery strategies, repeat labs, or referral back to your primary care provider or specialist when needed.

Functional wellness is about asking a better question than, “What can I take?”

It is asking: What does my body actually need, and how do we measure whether the plan is working?
