We started Blue Rosemary Co. because we believed two things could be true at once: your hair can look and feel incredible, and your shower doesn’t have to create a pile of plastic to make that happen.
Karen had been making shampoo bars for herself and her family — because the ones she could buy were too harsh for her curls and she knew there had to be a better way. When the timing was right, she and Skyler decided to share what she’d been making.
Sharing our shampoo and conditioner bars with you all, and hearing your comments such as “these are better than the big national brand” is why we keep going.

It all started because I couldn’t find a shampoo bar that actually worked for my hair.
I’d look around my shower and see the pile of plastic bottles building up — shampoo, conditioner, repeat — and feel this low hum of guilt I didn’t know what to do with. So I tried switching to bars. The ones I found were too harsh for my curls. They left my hair feeling stripped and dry. None of them worked the way I needed them to.
So I made my own.
What started as a DIY experiment in my kitchen turned into something I couldn’t stop thinking about. What if I could make a bar that actually performed — one that was good for your hair and didn’t leave a trail of plastic behind? What if those two things didn’t have to be at odds?
That question became Blue Rosemary Co.
Every bar we make is handcrafted in small batches in Durham, North Carolina, with naturally-derived ingredients. I chose each ingredient because they work — not because they photograph well or fill out an ingredient list. Some bars come out slightly different from the last batch. We call them perfectly imperfect, and we mean it as a compliment.

Every market we leave with a full heart — and last night was no different. Customers returning to tell us their hair is softer than it’s ever been. First-timers with curly hair taking a chance on a mini set. Someone finding the perfect gift for their niece. A frequent traveler realizing shampoo bars might just change how they pack forever.
This is why we formulate in small batches, source ingredients we actually believe in, and make every bar by hand. The results speak for themselves — and apparently, so do our customers.
