It’s always a pleasure to see this sweet soul! Beth had lived in Amsterdam for about 2 years and would come visit me whenever she would come to town to see family. Now, she’s onto her next adventure with a new job in NYC! She is such a smart, strong and brave woman and I’ll know she’ll conquer anything that comes her way 💕

It’s been around 6-7 months since I’ve done her balayage. I try to keep it as soft and natural as possible so that her hair can gracefully grow out since I know she won’t be back for another 6-7 months. SWIPE to see the before!

This caption is mainly for other stylists, however the more my guests are educated- the better! In order to achieve all around lightness- balayage is my weapon of choice. I’ll typically start with balayage for the first session of lightening to achieve maximum surface lightness at once. Balayage will ONLY lift a few levels, however I prefer this method for the first session when the end goal is a bright all around blonde. I’d much rather hand paint wide panels than meticulously weave compacted foils when you’re on a time crunch🤷🏼♀️ With highlights you’re still left with a ton of depth that you’ll have to go back in and break up during the next appointment, so why not just get it out of the way? It starts my canvas on the right track and sets me up for less work during the second and third session. Depending on my guests end goal, I may even balayage for the second session to get another few levels of all over lift. However, if she wants brighter pieces throughout (and doesn’t mind having more dimension) then I will highlight her to MAXIMIZE how much brightness she sees in that appointment.

I remember when I finished applying this balayage, I was on such a “Hair High” from the constant GO-GO-GO, that I was pacing in the back room trying to cast a spell on the lightener I just applied to lift FASTER! They don’t call us magicians for no reason 😉

What’s your motivation today? What got you out of bed this morning? What is driving you to keep going? I want to know!

It’s easy for blondes to start feeling washed out and non dimensional. We covered her grey by darkening her roots to achieve depth while also pulling through some thicker lowlights. This way, her brighter highlights POP & stand out more. You need contrast for light to bounce off of. If your color is starting to feel dull, let’s talk about adding in some depth at your next appointment! Especially with summer on the way, your hair will gradually lighten on its own, making you feel even more non dimensional. This IS a process! Yes, you see beautiful results today, however blondes are very porous and typically the first to start loosing depth. Each appointment will require adding back lowlights due to fading until your hair finally holds onto them for long term. The more you know! 💡

Alyssa colored her hair red last year and has been gradually trying to go back to her natural medium blonde, while ALSO trying to grow out her length. After a million highlights, shadow roots, toners & patience, she’s finally starting to feel herself again. Since her natural is back, she’s been wanting to add pops of dimension throughout. Making sure that we still keep her natural color in order for it to continue to grow gracefully. This was my second time balayaging her, and she’s FINALLY almost there! It can be intimidating coloring your coworkers hair, especially when she works right beside you. SWIPE to see the transition!
