We live in a desert so chapped lips are even more common here. Your lip skin is thin and delicate, take good care of it through these upcoming cold months!

A lip lesson: The skin on our lips is very thin compared to the rest of our body. They also don’t contain oil glands, hair follicles or melanin. This means without oil glands there is no natural lubrication being produced for our lips which can cause them to dry out easily.

Melanin is what protects your skin from the sun and is the pigment that gives you a tan or freckles. Since the lips don't produce melanin that is why the lips are more prone to sunburn and it's important to wear sun protection on your lips as well.

Dry & Chapped Lip Causes:

💋Dry climate (even flying a lot)
💋Sudden change in weather
💋Heated indoor air
💋Sunburn
💋Whitening toothpaste - particularly those that contain peroxide and baking soda
💋Lip plumping, matte and long-wearing lip products
💋Some topical skin medications like retinoids or acne treatments
💋Taking a short term antibiotic or illness

A simple DIY lip scrub recipe:
1.) 1 part oil or your choice (I like grapeseed or olive oil) + 2 parts white or brown sugar
2.) Mix, scrub, rinse and finish with lip balm
