It’s wild to think that over 18 years have passed since I opened Dragonfly Hair Studio. People often asked why I chose the name Dragonfly. Was I one of those people who collected them or decorated my house with them? Not at all.

And truthfully, I can’t take all the credit for the name. My sister Lisa helped me come up with it. In fact, it was entirely her idea, and I loved it instantly.

I was drawn to what the dragonfly represents; transformation, resilience, adaptability, and the ability to move through life with lightness and purpose. I also fell in love with its deeper symbolism; beautiful color, joy, new light, and the spirit to express our hopes, dreams, and needs.

What has always felt so meaningful is the parallel between the symbolism of the dragonfly in both life and hair. In life, we evolve, grow, and learn to shine in new ways. And in the chair, we do the same; embracing change, adding color, seeking joy, expressing who we are and who we want to become. That connection has always felt magical to me.

So if you’ve ever wondered, that is my why. The Dragonfly isn’t just a name, it’s a reflection of the journey I was stepping into and the kind of beauty, inside and out, that I wanted to create.

P.S. This is the original logo my brother-in-law, Justin, hand-drew for me nearly 20 years ago. It’s still one of my favorite pieces of my story.
