The end

23 years ago, I was a scared 30 year old that wasn’t sure how I was going to make it. That’s when I met Darlene’s Cutting Edge. In 2012 I became a partial owner and full in 2014. The ups far outweigh the downs and I had the pleasure of working with some wonderful people. Some I am still in contact with and some I’m not. I do, however, appreciate every one of them for the role they played in my life. Cutting Edge would like to thank each and every client that blessed us in so many ways. This is bitter sweet but I know it’s in Gods plan. Enjoy the slide show, from the beginning of an era, to the end.

Early Town Center Park to get playground and large Christmas tree
More good news for Early Town Center Park was announced during Tuesday's meeting of the city council.
Early City Administrator Tony Aaron updated city council members Tuesday night on plans for the playground from Cunningham Recreation and turf for the playground from Forever Lawn MidTex.
Aaron was not ready to ask the council to approve agreements with the two companies because final numbers are not yet in.
Aaron did say that they are trying to keep the cost of the playground to about $300,000.
He added that the turf will be in the neighborhood of about $100,000. So the total project cost is somewhere around $400,000.
Aaron said there have been some sponsorships contributing to the turf project and they will be announced at the Mayor Bob Mangrum's State of the City Address slated for Friday, April 17 at Howard Payne University's Mabee Center.
Council members approved the purchase of the artificial Christmas tree, ratifying earlier action by the Early Municipal Development District. The cost will be about $27,000, Aaron said.

Cutting Edge, formally Darlene’s Cutting Edge, has been in business since 1996. Darlene had a vision that turned into a legacy. A strong women who didn’t listen to the word no, or don’t, and built a business that flourished for a long time. She taught me, guided me, but most of all, loved me. In 2012 I bought 49% and in 2014 took over fully. It wasn’t without a lot of mistakes and some hardships. There have been 1000’s of people come in and out of our lives. Clients who became family and friends. Employees that became more than just co-workers. There has been frustrations and sadness along side love and support. Christmas parades and parties. Bake sales and lake get togethers. Back to school free haircuts and sports team sponsorships. Awards and galas. Group costumes and a whole lot of fun. We’ve cheered with you, we’ve also cried. We’ve even yelled a few times. We’ve lost people, who I hope the families know the love we have for them, BK and David, clients and loved ones.
Now a new chapter begins and after 30 years in business, Cutting Edge Barber Shop and Salon will be turning off the open sign one last time. April 30, 2026. We will be open normal hours, until then, still taking 1-2 for lunch.
I will share where everyone is going and phone numbers, but first I want to give credit to the grief of an end of an era.
