Unpopular esthetician opinion: you do not need a skin scope to have a thorough skincare consultation.
I recently had someone decide not to book because we don’t use one, and it honestly surprised me.
I’ve been a licensed esthetician for over a decade. I can look at your skin and assess texture, congestion, pigmentation, dehydration, sensitivity, acne and overall barrier health.
But a good consultation is also about asking the right questions.
What are you currently using?
What have you tried before?
What are your goals?
What fits your lifestyle and budget?
What are you actually going to be consistent with?
That information matters.
My issue is when skin scopes are made to seem like they are necessary for a good consultation, or when they are used to point out every little “problem” with someone’s skin and turn the consultation into a sales pitch.
Sometimes you do not need more products.
You need the right products, a realistic routine and someone who understands skin.
Technology can be a great tool, but it should support experience and education, not replace it.
Sometimes skincare really does not need to be that complicated.
