After falling asleep with my window open, I woke up this morning hottttt with damp sheets tangled around my feet and blankets on the floor, the air in my room thick enough to make you want to take your own skin off to find relief. I immediately crawled out of my bed and out of my clothes, threw on a bathing suit and went straight to the river.
You may not follow astrology, but I do... and there are a lot of intense things happening right now. I think this massive heat wave is timed perfectly with what's happening in the sky. There's a reason I want to peel my skin off, because there are still layers of myself asking to be shed. This morning I went to the river for more than a cool dip in her waters. I asked her to show me again how to trust the currents of my life. I needed to know how it felt to be held through surrender.
I also made friends with a beautiful blue dragonfly. Nature provides incredible gifts. 💙

Slow moving summer evenings like this are such a gift. Me barefoot in nature, touching every plant like we're old friends, practicing my plant identification, and asking Charlie no less than a zillion times to "smell this."😁

I think as parents, we always hope our children will take the best pieces of us and make them even better. I’m often quick to reflect on my flaws or the places I wish I’d done more, but maybe part of motherhood is also recognizing what did land. After all, isn’t that part of doing the work to heal and evolve? To show our children how to make art from the messes?

Week after week, I watch Charlie step onto a stage and perform the music she’s written. I watch her use music to express what doesn’t always come easily in words. And while I hope I’ve offered her some small piece of that, I can see so clearly that Charlie carries a strength that surpasses my own. She is brave, deeply feeling, and an artist in the truest sense of the word.

She is my heartbeat outside of my body. 💚

10/10 recommend lavender fields as a form of therapy. I’m officially retiring the phrase “go touch grass.” From now on I’ll be saying: go walk a lavender field.

Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year. Turning point on the wheel of the year where most celebrate how they bloom, the light, the joy, the warmth. 

I honor that, of course. Because I am a wildflower in love with warmth and sunshine and long summer days. But I can’t help but reflect on the seasons that came before this one. The long winter. The uncertainty. The grief that shaped me. The lessons that asked more of me. The light would not feel so sacred without the darkness that preceded it.

Tonight I bow at the altar of my life, and everything it took to get here. To stay. To be present enough to value the light. 🕯️
