The Albemarle Sounds, Edenton’s Barbershop Singers, held its first meeting in the fall of 1991 with about 18 men present. Over the years the membership has held pretty constant in numbers, 18 to 20, while over 50 men have been involved with the group during this time. We have sung the song "Hello Mary Lou" to hundreds of women over the years but this is the first time we sang it to a lady who's name is actually "Mary Lou"! Thank you so much Mary Lou Esterley from Albemarle Plantation!

Who said the Albemarle Sounds Chorus can't have fun?
This was from our Spring Fling Concert on May 23rd. Singing with us also was the chorus from Chowan Middle School and John A. Holmes High School.

I'm very sorry to have to say that the Albemarle Sounds lost a very good lead singer and a dedicated member of the Chorus. Bob Higerd was a hard worker and was always willing to help. He will be missed and I for one can say I will missed him a lot because Bob always sang over my right shoulder when we performed as a chorus. Bob had a very smooth voice and loved to sing! This is not goodbye Bob,….. but it's till we sing again!

We gave over $1700 this year to the music teachers of Chowan, Pasuotank, and Perquimans county. The money came from the proceeds of delivering Singing Valentines!
