After 14 years behind the chair, there are a few things I’ve got firm opinions on.

✦ Blonde specialists aren’t made fresh out of hair school.
You can absolutely have a passion for blonding from day one, but becoming a specialist takes time. Hundreds of heads of hair. Learning formulation, placement, timing, corrective color, hair integrity. Experience is what makes a specialist.

✦ Just because a brunette wants to go blonde doesn’t mean it’s a color correction.
Multiple sessions is ok. Taking extra time on a foil is ok. Just cause it’s not easy or fast doesn’t mean it’s corrective. Healthy hair will always win over getting someone “as blonde as possible” today.

✦ Your salon choice as a booth renter is a BUSINESS decision.
Of course you want to love the people you work around, but this is your career. This is how you pay your bills. Location, clientele, environment, amenities and how the space and people around you represents your brand all matter. Choose wisely.

✦ Being a fast foiler doesn’t automatically make you a good foiler.
Speed is great, after technique. Clean sections, intentional placement, proper saturation, no bleed marks and protecting the integrity of the hair matter a whole lot more to me than how quickly you can throw in 100 foils.

And yes… I will happily die on all four of these hills. 😂
