Spray tans develop through a reaction between DHA (dihydroxyacetone) and the amino acids in your skin's surface - known as the Maillard reaction. This process is sensitive to pH levels and your skin barrier.

Many traditional body washes, including Dove, contain rich moisturizers and surfactants that can disrupt this balance - breaking down the pigments (melanoidins) that give your tan its color.
