My consultations have been next level and all thanks to this color system!! It literally answers you the most important questions you should be asking yourself during a color consultation. Let’s analyze them together!!

This one determines your color placement!! Should the transformation be subtle, in between, or full 180?

Are we leaving some depth or a lot of depth?

Should we even tease the drop out or leave the depth?

Now let’s see what is her skin’s undertone. Is it warm, neutral, or cool?

There’s nothing worse than getting asked for ashy blonde, deliver the color, and the client looking washed out because it contradicts with her undertone!!

Okay so there’s soft more muted tones and then there’s vibrant and intense ones. For example example, copper… it can be soft like an auburn brunette or it can be intense and bright. Which one would look better is determined here!

So let’s answer the questions.
For her I would chose a subtle lived-in color and preserve her depth at the base and in between her lighter pieces, no full on teasing of the drops outs! 🚫

Her undertone is warm because she looks best with the olive drape rather than the cool gray. So our final tone will be warm.

She looks best with the blue drape rather than the yellow so this means the tone has to be soft and not vibrant as it wouldn’t look best on her from seeing her with the yellow drape.

This color system is simple and effective making all of your consultations more intentional to design a personalized color for your clients.

As hard as it is to see you go, my heart is so full knowing you’re chasing your dreams. Vero, thank you for trusting me when you were a baby stylist. Thank you for believing in me, believing in Monarca, and allowing me to be part of your journey. Watching you become the woman you are today has been one of the most rewarding parts of building this space.

San Diego is a little sunnier because you’re there, and your new salon home is the luckiest to have you.

Most hairstylists are taught to ask: “How blonde does she want to be?”

I think we should ask ourselves: “How much depth should stay?”

Depth is the darkness left in the hair. And it changes everything about how a color looks on someone.

In this photo, I could have made her much blonder. But her dark eyes, brows, and natural hair color told me she can handle depth. So instead of removing it, I kept it.

The result is a color that feels balanced. The blonde stands out because the depth is still there.

This is where many colorists get stuck. They focus on how much blonde to add instead of how much depth to leave behind. More blonde isn’t always better. Sometimes the most flattering color comes from keeping the right amount of darkness.

That’s what creates dimension, contrast, and a color that looks like it belongs on the person wearing it. 🤎

Before I ever pick up a foil I do this.

I hold a cool cloth and a warm cloth near my client’s face to read their undertone. You can literally see the difference in these photos. The warm cloth brings her skin to life. That tells me everything.

She is warm. So cool and ashy tones are out. We are going honey, beige, and soft golden. Tones that work with her coloring, not against it.
