How it started vs How it’s going.
July 2022 - June 2023
I am SO proud of my beautiful client Ifeoma. We had to do a huge cut in July 2022 and I am so grateful that she has trusted my expertise. She does not get silk presses.
She tries to see me every 6-8 weeks for a braid down which consist of 6 braids. Patted down the middle and three braids on each side. I determine how many braids to give a client based on density.
Low density hair should have no more than 4 braids. Small braids on low density hair will cause thinning and breakage.
I am now accepting NEW clients. Please keep in mind consultations are required and does not guarantee we will be the right fit for eachother.
Hair health is my #1 priority. These results are what I do it for, and of course meeting and building relationships with my clients.
Love y’all deep. 🤍

Feb 2022 - Feb 2023
Wow. Eleanor has been my client since May 2021. Her first year with me was rough. I was putting tiny braids in her hair for wigs and after 1 year we retained nothing.
I decided to start doing 4 large braids in her hair. As long as her wigs lay flat she’s good. The health of her hair is most important to me.
Excited to continue being part of her journey.

Happy 3 months to my beautiful client Shani! 🥳
Shani actually first visited me in 2021. She decided to restart her hair journey with me and I’m so proud of her. 👏🏾
It’s ok to start the journey over. It’s a lifestyle.
Typically after the initial appointment I like to see people back in 8 weeks. 3 months worked out for Shani because she primarily wears her natural hair out with minimal manipulation.
Next check in will be 6 and 12 months!
If you are looking to become a new client, a consultation is required. Please text (908)880-3340 to inquire about the consultation.
HAPPY GROWING! 🌿

POV: Your blowout length surpasses your silk press length. 🥳
May 2022 (left) - Nov 2022 (right)
My beautiful client Ashley first sat with me in May of 2022 (left photo) and we did a silk press. During her consultation she expressed to me that she primarily wears extensions and has the goal of retaining length.
Since her initial appointment I have only seen Ashley to shampoo, treat, trim, deep condition, and braid down. Absolutely no silk press. We were supposed to do her second silk press next month but we decided to wait for 1 YEAR! 🥳👏🏾
I can’t wait. I’m so excited for her. THIS is why I will not service anyone without a consultation. This journey is more than just doing a silk press.
If you are looking for someone to just give you a silk press, unfortunately I may not be the right service provider for you.
Stay tuned.. 👏🏾

April 20th, 2022 vs July 6th, 2022.
My beautiful client Amanda first sat with me in December 2021. Unfortunately we had to give her a huge cut in April 2022 due to mechanical damage.
I am so proud and grateful that Amanda trusted my advice. Look at this progress! 👏🏾
Please trust that a good hairstylist has your best interest at heart. Trust me when I say your hair is going to grow regardless. I can’t wait to see where we will be in December.
Proud of you Amanda! 🖤

Would you believe me if I told you this is what 4 months of retaining length looks like?
The left picture was February 2022 and the right picture is today, June 2022.
She comes in every 7-11 weeks (the earlier the better) gets a treatment and trim. We also give her 4 big braids to wear under her wigs.
The right picture was prior to me doing a dusting. This is what you should aim for when you return for your follow-up.
Glueless wigs are one of my favorite styles because it’s extremely low maintenance. It’s also easier to stay on top of moisturizing due to no restrictions.

:
The topic this week is Seborrhea. Are you familiar with this scalp condition?
Seborrhea is also known as Seborrheic Dermatitis or Seborrheic Eczema. Often times clients mistaken this condition to be dandruff or dry scalp.
When the sebaceous glands produce an excessive amount of sebum it will result in flaking, scaling, red skin, and itchiness.
Seborrhea is identified as flakes around the hairline, around the ears, and are often white or yellow in color.
As a Hairstylist, it’s important to identify these issues(not diagnose) and encourage clients to seek a dermatologist for proper diagnosis/treatment. The main goal is to reduce and prevent inflammation on the scalp.
Unfortunately, an inflamed scalp will hinder growth. Please note that nutrition and water intake is also very important for scalp health. Your hair is a reflection of what you put in your body.
Stay tuned for the next . 🖤

Let’s talk about length retention….
When you look at this photo I’ve marked where the splits begin. I’ve noticed that sometimes when I show people their hair before the trim the reaction is “Wow! My hair is so long” and yeah there’s length but is it healthy?
The answer is no. These splits will eventually work their way up the hair shaft. This will lead to further damage. It’s not about anyone being scissor happy, but being educated on what can happen if you do not get rid of damaged ends.
What can cause this type of damage? This damaged is typically caused by tension. This can be due to wearing braids that are too small whether it’s knotless, a braid-down, or a sew-in.
Focus on health first. Healthy hair will always retain length. You will never see progress with a damaged foundation.
If your focus is length rather than health, you may be not to be ready to embark on this hair journey.
Stop rushing the process. On average the hair can grow 1/2 inch a month. This can be more or less depending on genetics. It’s a marathon not a race! 👈🏾

6 weeks difference. Swipe left to see where we started.
We should be further than what we are but like I always say this is a journey and not a race. Eleanor is coming up on one year being my client.
As a hairstylist, it can be very disheartening not seeing the results you want for your clients. We’ve only ever did two silk presses. Eleanor is a natural hair maintenance client which means she comes and gets braided.
I decided to minimize manipulation by now only doing 4 braids. I’m very happy with the results and moving forward with adjusting how I approach this service. We will also do dustings as needed in between trims and implement more Protein Treatments.
**DISCLAIMER: Everyone’s growth phase/situation is different. Please do not compare your journey to others. This will result in disappointment**

Swipe to see progress. 👏🏾
Shoutout to my girl Dominique for remaining consistent and killing it. Dominique does not come to me to silk press. We only do a shampoo, deep condition, protein treatment and trim. She wears protective braids in between appointments.
May 2021 vs March 2022. The journey doesn’t stop here. 🔥 I’m so happy and proud of you Dominique.
