There are so many terms floating around for
hair techniques. Balayage, foilayage, money
piece, root tap, color melt…what do they all
mean?!
Let’s start with balayage since that’s a popular
question I get from clients in my chair!
The word balayage actually comes from the
French word “balai” which means broom and
“balayer” which is the verb of that meaning ‘to
broom’ or brooming. Which if you’ve ever had a
balayage done makes total sense! When we
balayage we are sweeping our color brush over
the hair to create a gradual, seamless blend!
Because of the sweeping motion, it creates a
beautiful, natural looking effect.

She has natural loose curls, and had been heat styling almost every day, as well as having occasional highlights done. I assured her that her hair was indeed growing, but breaking off on the ends from damage.
I trimmed her natural hair, gave her some fresh hand painted highlights and did a full installation of 20” wavy hand-tied extensions. She loves her new look, and the extensions will actually protect her natural hair as it grows out!

Here’s a quick style idea when you’re pressed for time...
Adding a simple fishtail (or any type of braid) to your hair takes almost no time at all, but makes it appear as though you put lots of effort into your style. Loosely clip it to the back of your hair with a cute barrette to complete the look.
This actually works best on second or third day hair, with dry shampoo; the more texture in the braid, the better!

This hair color reminds me of springtime; it’s so bright and cheerful 😊 Here are a few quick tips on how to keep your bright or vivid colors from fading too quickly:
1) wash your hair as infrequently as possible. Dry shampoo is your best friend in this situation
2) when you do wash your hair, use the coolest water you can stand. The hotter the water, the more your hair cuticles open up, and the color will rinse right out. Cold water keeps your cuticles closed as much as possible, so you will have minimal rinse out.
3) wear a cute hat if you’re going to be in the sun to protect it from fading
4) don’t submerge your hair in chlorinated water at all
5) you can use Keracolor Clenditioner, a color depositing conditioner, to maintain brightness. Most color depositing shampoos/conditioners can dry your hair out if used too frequently, but this one doesn’t. I used it for 6 months when I had rose gold hair, and it kept my color looking beautiful!
