My goal, my passion, is to bring high quality diagnostic ultrasound to ANYONE in rural communities.

❀️ A Message From Our Owner, Brianne! ❀️

Yes, she's a sonographer and the owner of Rural Imaging Services, but she's also a mom to two amazing girls, grandma to the cutest one-year-old ever (she might be a little biased πŸ˜‰), wife to the most patient and supportive man, a Seahawks fan πŸ’šπŸ’™, and perhaps most importantly... a human with some pretty big feelings! ❀️

In honor of Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month, Brianne wanted to step out from behind the ultrasound machine and share a little about herself, her journey into sonography, and why this profession means so much to her.

So, for the next few weeks, we're handing the keyboard over to her! πŸ₯°

🩺 Week 1: We're Not Just Taking Pictures!

So, why did I become a sonographer?

I wish I had some amazing, inspirational story about how I always knew this was my calling... but the truth is, I really didn't! πŸ˜‚

I knew I wanted to work in healthcare, and after going through my first pregnancy, I became interested in ultrasound. Like most people, I thought ultrasound was all about scanning pregnant women and looking at babies.

It wasn't until my first day in the ultrasound program at Seattle University that I realized there was SO much more to this profession!

And I immediately fell in love with it.

Now, don't get me wrong, the program was HARD. I was a single mom with a one-year-old when I started the program, and nobody warned me just how much PHYSICS was involved! πŸ˜‚ But I loved the challenge, and the more I learned, the more fascinated I became.

One thing I wish more people understood is that sonographers do SO much more than just take pictures.

We aren't simply putting a probe on someone and snapping a few images. We have to understand anatomy, physiology, pathology, and the physics behind how ultrasound works. We have to recognize when something isn't normal, know what we're looking at, and determine what additional images and measurements are needed.

Unlike many other imaging modalities, ultrasound is incredibly operator-dependent. The images we obtain are the images the interpreting physician relies on to make a diagnosis. If we don't recognize, investigate, and properly document an abnormality, something important could be missed.

That is an enormous responsibility, and one I don't think most people realize we carry.

Twenty years later, I still love what I do. I'm still learning, still being challenged, and still amazed by what ultrasound can reveal.

Over the next few weeks, I'd love to share more about this profession, the experiences that have stayed with me, and how it eventually led me to starting Rural Imaging Services.

Happy Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month! ❀️

We are so much more than picture takers!

❀️ And to all my fellow sonographers out there... I'd LOVE to hear from you!

How did you find your way into this profession? Was ultrasound always your plan, or did you stumble into it like I did? πŸ˜‚

Whether you've been scanning for 2 years or 30, I'd love to hear your story! What made you fall in love with ultrasound, and what do you wish more people understood about what we do?

Let's show everyone just how much goes into being a sonographer! ❀️🩺
